Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Nov 30, 2007 3:45 pm Hi guys,
Hoping I can get some opinions on external colours we've selected for our house and now having some doubts about them . Here is a drawing of the facade and the selected colours, the house is going to be fully rendered. http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc69/ignoramus1979/facade.jpg The colours from top to bottom are: Taubmans Tahini Taubmans Rialto Taubmans Shell Stone Colorbond Ironstone For the roof we've selected Boral Striata roof tiles in Gunmetal (http://www.boral.com.au/Article/Roofing_Grange_Profile_NSW.asp?AUD=homeGarden_Rooftiles). We were considering using the Shell Stone as the main wall colour, with Rialto used for the columns and the front door. The section above the garage, the balcony infills, and the pelmet were going to be painted in Tahini. Guttering, fascia, garage door and window frames were to be in Ironstone. We've just had the windows installed so we're stuck with Ironstone for that. At the time the colours seem to work but just not sure now. Would greatly appreciate if I could obtain some opinions. Re: Opinion on selected external colours 2Nov 30, 2007 6:50 pm Dna….love that name! And thank you so much for providing a great picture and colours to go off, it makes so much easier!!
I like your colour scheme…..why? Because it’s different!!!! You have steered away from the colours that a lot of people use. This looks good to me…..its a shame when colorbond changed their colours that they seemed to have altered their greys…..the ironstone seems to have a fair bit of blue in it. Something I had to work with just recently doing externals for a client! It can get a bit messy for me trying to match the greys, which I had to use deep blues to do!!! ANYWAY back to you……I’d say go with it, not sure why your having second thoughts…but that happens a lot when people have a while to look at their colours choices, they then start to doubt what they've chosen. Start concentrating on other areas of your home…..your eternals are done so put them aside. I agree with you about the Ironstone having fair bit of blue and that's probably what's making me have second thoughts, whilst I like the Ironstone colour by itself, just was not sure if it worked . We were looking for a dark grey to match the roof and there simply wasn't much choice. Windspray was too light and Woodland Grey just had too much green for our liking. Just another question, what would you recommend for driveway/pathway colours? We currently have in mind Regency Grey in the Austral London range. http://www.australbrick.com.au/nsw/product.php?ID=1481 Other than that I guess it's time to concentrate on the internals, we've selected all the flooring and tiling for the wet areas, just need to work on the joinery and walls . Will post pictures of the flooring selections once I obtain the samples. Actually when I have time, I should create a new thread with pictures on the progress of construction. P.S. The "name" is actually just the first initials of myself, 3 yo son, and wife (Dennis, Nathan, Ann) Re: Opinion on selected external colours 4Nov 30, 2007 10:34 pm Dna ….will look at this tomorrow…..off to bed now.

Thats scared the crap out of you, didn't it? Im sure your colours will look fine. Can you use MS Paint of something to actually colour that picture of your house with your selected colours? It'll give you a better idea of how it'll look. Re: Opinion on selected external colours 6Dec 01, 2007 7:38 am cookie.......show us what you did!!!! You have stolen our house! No really, our houses look very similar. I like your colour choices but I would use Rialto in moderation. I just saw a 2 story house which used this colour in the render for the entire house and it was a bit much IMO. Very nice colours. WD. Well lucky for us we are building in different states . We will only be using Rialto for the columns and the front door. As requested by Cokkie, here's a quick MS Paint job of colouring in the facade. IMO the black outlines throws you off, a thumbnail of the picture looks much better than the full version. Well done! Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Opinion on selected external colours 13Dec 02, 2007 5:16 pm Hey dna that looks great. You could also consider having the same colour for the garage door AND the front door.
You will be able to pull it off - and it would make the front door a feature too. Pesonal choice though. But definitely looks great as is. Re: Opinion on selected external colours 14Dec 02, 2007 8:20 pm Thanks for the feedback
I did originally consider having the front door the same colour but that'll mean an additional paint colour. Our allowance was for 2 external colours but we were allowed the third at no cost, so don't want to be pushing it. Re: Opinion on selected external colours 15Dec 02, 2007 10:20 pm We requested that our front door be painted Black gloss to make it a feature and our colour consultant said that the builder will not cover it under warranty as blcak is prone to warping!!! After much "discussion" we kept it as Paperbark to match the garage door colour and feature render colour of Barn Rafter.
But after handover we are looking at pulling it off after and getting it 2 Pac'd in Black gloss.... i need to see the finished product first then decide from there.. You might find you will need to do the same....Either way your place will still look fantastic.... Re: Opinion on selected external colours 16Dec 03, 2007 6:31 am dna, you can always paint the door yourself afterwards.
And I just have to ask.. Phoenix... is that avatar you? Re: Opinion on selected external colours 17Dec 03, 2007 7:22 am i have previously lived in a new house for 2 years that had a black gloss fornt door and the front door was facing north west direction - it did warp the actual door of the house so i would be careful about painting it black............. as good as it does look Building again . . with Redink Pre-start 04/12 Keys - 03/13 Finishing off. . .
