Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Oct 31, 2010 8:23 pm Hi Everyone, Its been a long time since I've visited, been busy having a baby! Now that she sleeps through the night I have the energy to start more house projects! We are preparing to renovate our L shaped lounge room. The longest wall is about 7m long. It will have the tv against it at one end, and a piano at the other. We don't have high ceilings, just the standard. The wall that runs perpendicular to the "feature wall" is all window - most likely to have curtains. The room is lovely and bright with morning sun. I think wall paper would look fabulous behind the piano - but want to ensure that whatever I choose isn't too busy behind the tv. Is having the tv on wallpaper a big decorating no no? Would love to see pictures if anyone has done it! I'm thinking a small pattern would look best or maybe even a stripe - vertical to make the ceiling look higher? Any tips appreciated! The house is 30 years old, brick and currently classic 70s (we removing the floor to ceiling timber panelling and cocktail cabinet to create this new wall!) The parts we have renovated so far have a slight leaning to french provincial. Neutral colours on walls, with accent colours in art works and cushions etc. Happy to go more bold in the lounge room but still want to tie in with the rest of the house! Thanks for any hints and tips! Re: Help me choose my wallpaper! 2Nov 01, 2010 11:10 am I think wallpaper behind piano would look stunning. What colour are the couches. furniture, walls etc in that area? Re: Help me choose my wallpaper! 3Nov 01, 2010 6:10 pm Hi LeanneR THe only thing that is decided is the black leather lounge suite. The piano is a dark wood, almost black. Wall colour, curtains and carpet will all be replaced. The paint we have used in the new renovation is Resene Half Tea - a warm neutral, looks great with white and light timber. We can use the same colour in the lounge, but are happy to consider something different (though compliementary) as well. We have a wall of windows in the lounge as well, so would love something dramatic for the window furnishings. Right now we have salmon pink curtains - got to go! We have a fabulous painting that I would like to use in the lounge - it has a range of colours in it, but particularly deep reds and purples. MAybe I should use that for inspiration - could look good with the dark furniture? Re: Help me choose my wallpaper! 4Nov 01, 2010 7:16 pm I think work with the painting maybe add cushions in deep reds & purples. Could find a grey tone wallpaper with a purple or red flower or something pattern through it or black & white pattern. Just little hints of the colours to help compliment the painting. Example black & white wallpaper but using red vase for colour Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Help me choose my wallpaper! 5Nov 02, 2010 9:15 am Hi there, Not sure where you're located but Laura Ashley stores currently have 30% off their wallpapers and decor. I just bought my wallpaper at $48 per 10m roll from Laura Ashley which was the cheapest wallpaper I found. Our house is neutral so we bought the Lille Linen (stripes) and Oriental Garden Linen (floral) wallpapers which both have a pearl sheen through them. They also have some darker/bolder wallpapers too. Perhaps go and check out their wallpaper books to see if anything catches your eye? You can also view them on their website but its difficult to see because the pictures are so small. If you're in Perth, the Wallpaper and Border Shop in Booragoon is also fantastic, they have hundreds of wallpaper books and were also well priced. Hope that helps! Re: Help me choose my wallpaper! 6Nov 02, 2010 1:07 pm Oh im in Perth - thank you for the shop tip Hmmm i wonder how many rolls id need for feature wall in master bedroom Re: Help me choose my wallpaper! 7Nov 03, 2010 8:54 am Glad to help! I pre-warn, the shop looks nothing from the outside (it's also a foam shop) but they had the best range (from traditional to modern) I could find and were much better priced than other 'trendy' stores. Enjoy your hunting, it's great fun!! Hi there, long-time lurker but first time posting. I've bought a house 2 and a bit years ago and last year we had some major water damage on a converted pergola area… 0 7932 Yes, unless you are in a low intensity rainfall area or the area is protected from rain. Do you have access to NCC Part 2 or can you download it? I can email you a copy… 10 12516 Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7165 |
