Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Oct 23, 2010 5:59 pm I have given my daughters a little "free reign" to decorate their shared bedroom (but I would still like it to turn out "nice" rather than "noice" if you get what I mean). My elder daughter wants a teal feature wall while my younger daughter has chosen hot pink taffeta eyelet curtains - two very full-on colours as you see below! The colour my daughter likes is Dulux Sea Creature: These are the curtains we bought: Where can I go from here to try to create something that works? Is there some colour wheel philosophy or some technique to choose a blue that will go with the pink? The feature wall will be out of sight from other rooms. One window (900mm wide and 2100mm tall) will be in the feature wall while there is another window (same dimensions) on another wall. Would I be better off putting a white taffeta curtain on the feature wall window and saving the fuschia curtain for the window that is on the other wall? Or would that just be too disjointed? Might help figure it out. http://community.apartmenttherapy.com/c ... ntries/641 Judie Re: How do I make my girls' colour choices work? 3Oct 24, 2010 9:00 am Found this with a google search, but doesn't have any details and is from a blog in the US. Just thought it might give you some ideas for a colour palette??? Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Still not in. Don't ask!? Re: How do I make my girls' colour choices work? 4Oct 24, 2010 10:07 am Hey Kylie, Those colours work really well together. Seeing that the teal is only going to be on one wall, and the fuchsia is contained within the curtains you can use a much lighter/neutral base colour on the other walls to avoid the room looking over-the-top. As for furniture, I'd be looking at white... and probably contemporary lines over ornate detailing. Then it's just a matter of adding some layers with the soft furnishings, so pick bed linen, cushions, and other nick-knacks that pick up the teal & fuchsia colours to tie everything together. Re: How do I make my girls' colour choices work? 5Oct 24, 2010 10:23 pm Wow guys! Thanks Judie, Bel and Ikon - those examples have given me hope. I can see from those pic's that perhaps "more is better" applies here - both use other strong colours alongside the blue and pink. I'm getting some ideas about adding a few rows of sequins to the bottom of the curtains. And perhaps a stripe or two of lime green on the teal feature wall, or stencilled stars or decals or something along those lines. A bright rug on the floor... Mmmm... obviously these ideas need some work but at least I'm excited about this room again, even if it won't be the soft restful place I had envisioned! Once again, thanks. I may do up some sketches in the next couple of weeks and post them for feedback. Your suggestion will be easy to incorporate. Now for the fun part of looking for "the" thing that will tie it all together! Bed linen, rugs, bean bags - all good options and so much fun to go looking for too! Perfect... now to convince the girls they like it LOL! That is nice - a little less "heavy" feeling than the Dulux "Sea creature" my daughter chose. Can you remember the name of your colour, Lou? I think maybe adding an earthy tone to the mix might help it from being overpowering. Here are two pics I've had saved in my favourites (I'm doing pink & blue for my girls too).
