Nah, I think it's fine here... Mine is a strange mix of modern with a tropical flavour (yes, in Melbourne! ), with a touch of south-east Asian influence. The landscaping is mostly done, but I'm still working on the interior. I don't like minimalist modern, it has to be warm. No clutter, but not sterile. Not too matchy-matchy, but not junkshop-style where nothing goes together. Big ask? You bet. Re: Style of Decor -what are you using? 4Oct 18, 2010 7:05 pm Hi Liz, My sister would class my taste as abit retarded... Slight modern tendencies, but with a beachy feel... But I love brocade and damask patterns... I don't know how I'll fit all that into our house! I imagine something like this in your design Liz.... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ As for me, I've gone very much vintage-modern as I felt it was most suited to our little 1950/60's fibro shack. We've renovated the interiors but tried to preserve original features where possible like the cornices, and floors. We ripped out all of the skirtings & architraves and replaced them with wider ones to give the place a little more character. As for the furniture itself I have some replica Bertoia chairs (a design from the 50's), a Florence Knoll style Chaise Sofa (again a piece inspired by the 50's), a contemporary marble & stainless steel dining table, and a very retro fire-engine red set of draws with some frames above made from bits of old pressed metal ceiling. I also love a bit of a vintage industrial feel thrown into the mix of French Prov, English Country and Hamptons. Probably my all time fav blog would be A-M's: http://thehousethata-mbuilt.blogspot.com/ You'll have to go quite a while back in her 'older posts' to see her amazing house as she has since sold it and moved! But if you have a copy of the June 2010 Home beautiful, it was featured in that. I also love trawling through the pages of Karnas Hus (Norwegian blog full of Riviera Maison Gorgeousness!): http://karnashus.blogspot.com/ I also love (and drool over): http://www.abeachcottage.com/ http://thepaintedhive.blogspot.com/ Have a look on my blog (link is in my sig below) and I have a list of some gorgeous blogs I follow on it down the left hand side... The one thing that stands out about my house, inside and out, is that it is relentlessly neutral, I use all shades of white, taupe, beige, grey, and black, but absolutely no colour.
