Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Sep 09, 2010 8:59 pm Hi Michelle or anyone that has the time to help me. Im really stuck on my external colour selections. http://i903.photobucket.com/albums/ac237/thirstya/house/IMG_0002.jpg Roof - Zincalume Gutters - Zincalume Fascia - Deep Ocean Downpipes - Deep Ocean Steel Posts - Deep Ocean Beams/ Exposed Rafters - Deep Ocean Render - ?????? Thinking Rock Oyster......Maybe Dune.......See Below Cladding - Hardi Plank Weather Board - Deep Ocean Garage - Timber??? Windows - ????? DH wants deep ocean to match in but I think it will look funny with the type of render????? Doors - Front Entrance is in Timber. All other doors will be painted????? Ok, Firstly, sorry that this is soooooo long but I will give a bit of background. We are on 5 acres of lush green pasture and lots of trees thrown in for good cause We have an existing shed which is going to be behind the house on the garage side but in full view from the front (hope u know what I mean). The shed is in deep ocean with windspray roller doors which is why we have the cladding in deep ocean. The roof of the shed is zincalume and we have a rainwater tank behind it in zinc aswell. We are after a render that wont really clash with the windspray from the shed but will look good with the deep ocean. We will be using a lot of blue metal around the house and shed so we are trying to marry the render into that aswell. Could someone please give me any/some comments before I send myself to the looney bin Thanks Edited cos I forgot to mention we have wattyl colours to choose from. Re: Need serious help with External Colours 2Sep 11, 2010 5:19 pm Should I have put this in the finishing touch section. Woops.....Sorry if this is in the wrong section Re: Need serious help with External Colours 3Sep 11, 2010 6:02 pm I would definitely go with a neutral window frame rather than deep ocean because you will see the frame inside as well. Having blue window frames really limits your ability to have different colour schemes inside. I like your suggestions of Dune and timber but I'm biassed as these are my favourites! With your painted doors I would stick to the same colour as your render. Re: Need serious help with External Colours 4Sep 11, 2010 8:30 pm Thanks for answering kb46. Definitely going to steer hubby away from The Dreaded Blue window frames. Men Dont know if the Dune will be too browny colour and clash with the windspray on the shed. This is the hardest decision. which is why I was looking at the rock oyster. the rock oyster does seem to have a tinge of green in it but I havent actually looked at colours painted on anything....Just on the wattyl pamphlet. DH wants to just leave the painting off until after handover but I prefer to get it all done. He will thank me in the end. Flaggy put the swatches on my thread. On the wattyl site the little colour cards look similar to the colours but when you apply it to a house for inspiration, the colours are WRONG Thanks again. Muchly appreciated Re: Need serious help with External Colours 5Nov 23, 2010 9:45 pm Im bumping this up, cos I still havent made a decision We have bought quite a few sample pots of paint and its looking dismal for us at the moment. We have to decide on our external colours pretty soon. We definitely want to keep everything the same as above but dont know about the render colour. Greys are way to drab for our property. We're thinking of something with a bit of "zing / flair / wow factor". The garage will probably be deep ocean to tie into the other parts of deep ocean. If anyone has any ideas pleeeeeeeeassssssssse help me. Heres another pic of my facade Edit - my pic isnt working Re: Need serious help with External Colours 6Nov 23, 2010 9:53 pm Does anyone know : if you delete a photo from photobucket and then put it back on there - why it doesnt let you put it on here again Re: Need serious help with External Colours 7Nov 23, 2010 10:09 pm can't help with the PB question, but will have a play with colours for you.. A lot of this builders (as u know) homes are done in weird and wonderful colours. I love it but just cant get the colour right Re: Need serious help with External Colours 11Nov 23, 2010 10:57 pm Well I suck a colours but if you show me pics I can easily tell you what I do and don't like lol. TG did you notice the window frames inside my house I posted lastnight??? Some of those are blue. I can't even remember if it was all or just some I think it was all. I never really noticed them tbh. Although personally I'd go neutral, but if you're already using blue what's a little more... depending on what you want to do with the inside. As for the bold colours, I like them when used in sections but not the whole thing (as a feature). Is that what you had in mind, or just one bright solid colour? Re: Need serious help with External Colours 12Nov 23, 2010 11:08 pm Im definitely going with anotec dark grey. Because we have lots of windows, verandahs and the weatherboard in the gable sections, I thought it would break it all up therefore if I use the same colour it wont look bad. Will put up pics tomorrow night. Getting too tired for it. Thanks for coming to the rescue though my lovelies Re: Need serious help with External Colours 14Nov 23, 2010 11:22 pm I did it. I just edited it a bit and it came back AND I know what I did wrong. I shouldnt have just deleted it from pb. i should have deleted it from just here. Yay for that. OK, Can anyone help me please. Mrs G, the anotec dark grey has a hint of blue in it so it was close enough. V sent me an email with a couple of pics on it showing 1 with rock oyster and the other blackberry smoothie. Both look good but DH doesnt like the greys. Will try to post them on here but it probably wont let me cos its in a different kind of format...... Thanks again V Re: Need serious help with External Colours 18Nov 24, 2010 9:53 pm Thirsty I have resized them. Do you want me to put them up? Do you want me to put them up? I can't email at the mo as bigpond has cracked the sheets Post them for me? thirsty, Why are you using Zincalume for your roof out of interest? Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Need serious help with External Colours 20Nov 25, 2010 11:34 pm The sheets aren't cracked V. Your email came through. Yep, can u pls post them. Michelle, we decided on zinc cos its cheaper and still looks good with the right colours. Because we want our render thats something a bit out there we want to make a feature of it and not so much the roof. Our shed is in deep ocean with windspray roller doors and a zincalume roof. Also the rainwater tank ( which is huge) is zincalume so we wanted to tie it all in. I know I sound crazy with wanting to make the house a bold colour but I know it will work cos Ive seen it. Tell me Im crazy though if it all sounds wrong The Dulux colour consultants are awesome. If you show them the photos they should be able to figure it out for you straight away 1 1612 Thanks Pulse, thats really helpful and very much appreciated. Also thanks for the pointer on sheathing, thats me watching too many american youtube videos! 6 2798 Before you rip it up, if you can in the grout lines, drill some holes and pour/inject techgrip by sika.
