Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Sep 07, 2010 3:09 pm I LOVE the look of cream coloured couches and am wondering how much it'd cost to get our 2 couches re-upholstered in new material, but...the clean factor. Stains, food, cats, etc. We're not slobs or anything, but even just ****** on the couch day in, day out, leaves sort of..."grubby" marks after a while. I know you can get the material Scotchguarded, but in my experience, this doesn't really work very well. I see so many places with light coloured couches (like completely WHITE or cream or just pale shades), and I wonder HOW they keep them looking good. How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: I want a cream/pale coloured couch, but how to keep it cl 2Sep 07, 2010 3:30 pm yeah its hard. not sure if it's in your budget, but definitely cream/white coloured leather or vinyl would be easier to keep clean than material. having said that we have two cream leather recliners which are also hard to keep clean, but at least spills don't sink in to the leather like they do fabric. a couple of throws over the couch might help. Re: I want a cream/pale coloured couch, but how to keep it cl 3Sep 07, 2010 9:18 pm My tip is, it's easier to KEEP it clean, than GET it clean. A lot of the discoloration that builds up is ground in dirt and dust. Vacuum regularly. At least as often as you vacuum the floor. I have a taupe coloured King furniture modular lounge, and two pale cream wing chairs in my sitting room, and they are both immaculate despite 2 grubby cats that like to sleep all over everything. We have a Dyson vacuum cleaner, I used to use the little brush head to clean the upholstery but now I have a handheld Dyson which is my new love. I try to discourage people from eating in the living room (guests only allowed, DH is not). If you are having them recovered, make sure you can take the covers off the seat cushions and wash them, that will take care of any bad marks/stains. White fabric is easier to get stains out of than a lot of colours as you can bleach it. Re: I want a cream/pale coloured couch, but how to keep it cl 4Sep 08, 2010 3:31 pm Hmmm, I never thought of that, but it makes total sense that white would be easier than pale...ah yes, the wonders of bleach. lol We don't really want leather...I have nothing against it, but I think my opinion of it has been biased in a negative way because every place I've seen pale leather couches in, they've been grubby-looking and it just doesn't seem to come out...also, we get hot here on the Gold Coast and I've stayed in hotels with leather couches and it's kinda unpleasant to be sitting or ****** on material that sticks to you whenever you move. lol And yes, washable covers...that's the key for us I think...we don't have that now. They can't come off. It's our own fault really...there's no product it seems that can clean at home couches...(there WAS one we saw ads for a while ago on TV, but it never appeared in any shops here so we couldn't get it. Preen stain-remover for couches)...but we eat in front of the TV, we're ALWAYS on the couches, slothing and relaxing in front of the TV, the cats are on there too but they're not the problem. They leave minimal hair and don't go outside so they're pretty clean. It's mainly bits of food over time, FAKE TAN, and even just where we brush against one end of one of the couches when we walk past it (it's a bit of a tight squeeze to get past that particular couch), it's left dark marks from our pants material!!! Also, the current material is jacquard...we'd be nervous to use an at-home cleaning product on it in case it wrecked the material, but at the same time, it's SUCH a hassle to arrange for someone to come and take the couches away for however long to clean them and then bring them back...and not cheap. We can't have nowhere to sit for weeks!! (when we originally got them re-covered in this material, it took over a month to get them back because they couldn't come and deliver them back after 2.30pm, which is when I got home from work each day. Only in the middle of the day, and I couldn't take a day off work JUST to wait for the couch people!!!!!) Having said all this, I ALSO love the look of beige / warm mushroom colours, and surely they'd HIDE grub, right? lol How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing!
