Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Aug 12, 2010 7:51 pm Hi Everyone Just wanted to know your thoughts on black and white theme, We have a black and white kitchen and I want to keep with the colour scheme through out the house if possible. Has anyone got any suggestions how I can do this without making the house look tacky as such? Also has anyone used black carpet / flooring before? I just googled images black and white decor and was inundated with images! I am no expert at all but I would imagine the best way to view it would be to take one colour, black or white and accent it with the other colour, otherwise it will all be too busy and mish mash. Refined, clean and simple suits black and white in my personal opinion, but what would I know? Personally I LOVE black Japan floors, but I guess you need to decide which look you would like best, the clean white floors or the dark depth of the black. You sound like you want to whole B&W look throughout, which is fine if that's your desire. Re: black and white theme 6Aug 15, 2010 7:25 am play with texture, think about the amount of natural light, don't always use true black and white as they could be too harsh, eg soften with blue/black. Consider various grays - how this is used can set quite different characteristics for a room. If you wanted to add colour, it can be very subtly done in a gray eg gray with a hint of purple. love the look of dark wooden flooring, however the practical side puts me off - a few friends who have it are forever cleaning it as it quickly looks dirty, but they also have children to assist in getting the dirty look! (suppose it is like having a black car that shows up the dirt quicker than a white one). Re: black and white theme 8Aug 16, 2010 2:21 pm Black & White looks fantastic when done really well, like the pics and above comments show, just need to balance the colours correctly.
