Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Aug 11, 2010 1:08 pm Hello there decorating afficiandos! Many of you will know me from such threads as "Doing it with Green" and the Thread That Never Ends (AKA NBG-Homestead 23 ) Well, now I'm calling upon you're combined expert advice and wisdom... The Living Room in our new house is having a chocolate coloured cnr suite (after a slight error with the colour upon arrival ) and as a sweetener for the wrong colored sofa being accepted I was given the option of a discounted store product-ergo I ordered a storage ottoman in a pin striped chenille fabric; containing the colours chocolate, aqua and camel. It has arrived and I also went and purchased some cushions today as shown in the photo below.....I'm happy with the colour combo, but now am wondering which of two options I should take in the new house-which is where you all come in! Option A) Feature wall to match the blue in the ottoman & cushions, with chocolate toned wall decoration/artwork (Wattyl Buoyance is a close match) or: Option B) Neutral wall with artwork to pick up on the blue. The furniture in the room is all darker timber and the room stands alone so to speak (doesn't have to match in with anywhere else)... http://i810.photobucket.com/albums/zz27/deemareeinwinslow/P8110002.jpg and a close up of the blue in the cushions and ottoman Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Deemaree Kyndylan Capers: viewtopic.php?f=36&t=46852 My blog: http://www.sufficientlysufficient.blogspot.com/ Re: Feature wall or not? 2Aug 11, 2010 1:23 pm hi Dee I would go with a neutral or no feature wall and the artwork to pick up on the blue. rather than a blue feature wall. but I am not big on feature walls, we are very white here, though I am thinking of doing one in our living area but really not sure which wall. I think if you do a bloue feature wall it is a very big statement. it could look great but you want to be really sure you want to do that! what if you wanted to change your cushions in a few years to a different colour? would you have to re-paint the wall as well? not that that couldn't be done, but all wuestions to think about I suppose. Re: Feature wall or not? 3Aug 11, 2010 1:25 pm love the stripes!! how big is the feature wall and where is it situated compared to the couch? does it have anything infront of it, like TV etc?? Caz & Co ALL MOVED IN!! Now comes all the hard work-decorating.... It's going in the corner of the living room which backs onto the Main Bedroom & the study-so the wall in question is 4.5m across (with the door to the main bedroom on one side) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Deemaree Kyndylan Capers: viewtopic.php?f=36&t=46852 My blog: http://www.sufficientlysufficient.blogspot.com/ Re: Feature wall or not? 5Aug 11, 2010 2:12 pm The wall is behind the lounge itself..... I do have a couple of large canvases here which I'm contemplating trying to decorate myself-I've got a while to decide! I'm not afraid of a bit of colour (or having to change paint-especially after one of our DD's had purple metallic paint as her feature in the last house... ) Deemaree Kyndylan Capers: viewtopic.php?f=36&t=46852 My blog: http://www.sufficientlysufficient.blogspot.com/ Re: Feature wall or not? 8Aug 11, 2010 3:21 pm Yes, me too, I would go the neutral walls and the artwork. You coud always paint the wall later if you get sick of the look and really need that colour splash. (Oh how I know that feeling sometimes). www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Feature wall or not? 9Aug 11, 2010 3:33 pm Re: Feature wall or not? 10Aug 11, 2010 4:12 pm Oh how nice is that wall?????? gee maybe I should revise my post.... I'm a sucker for colour, I love it. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Feature wall or not? 11Aug 11, 2010 4:38 pm Hmm- I was going to add my vote which as originally neutral wall and then bring out the colour with artwork. I saw Bel's example which is the kind of thing I imagined. ..........Hmm- then I saw the feature wall examples that were posted and now I'm not so sure- they are very striking! If it doesn't need to co-ordinate with other things nearby then why not go for it!? It is just paint after all and you can change the colour down the track. I guess though at the end of the day.......I like colour BUT I would probably be more inclined to change pillows and artwork than I would paint an entire wall. Now just to contradict myself- My kids have requested bold colours for their rooms. I don't want to paint the entire room their desired colour so the compromise is that they will each get a feature wall. They have all selected bold colours but I think they will mix/match well with other colours and I am pretty confident I will be able to just change bedspreads and other items in the room as they get older (and won't need to repaint any time soon) Hmm- it's a tricky one- and I have been no help whatsoever. (I'm a female- I'm allowed to be indecisive! LOL) Re: Feature wall or not? 12Aug 11, 2010 4:45 pm I vote for no feature wall; according to the experts (which I am most certainly not) they are on their way out anyway. FWIW I know you can paint over them at a later stage but it's actually quite hard to completely cover a bold color. For instance my bedroom in our current home (circa 1970's) had a very dark army green feature wall (with orange curtains )and despite multiple coats of paint it is still slightly different in color to my other walls. Good luck making the choice. P.S. I do really like the color of the top feature wall on flaggie's post tho Re: Feature wall or not? 13Aug 11, 2010 4:50 pm Bah, what do experts know I say whatever it is you want, do it for yourself, not the experts!!! Another profound statement there I have no feature walls because I had a lot in my previous house and I wanted a change, but we are toying with the idea of a wallpaper feature wall....and that turquoise wall is gorgeous, I dunno! Re: Feature wall or not? 14Aug 11, 2010 6:12 pm Well I have to say I love the teal blue colour you want. My only issue is there is a door in the wall you want to put the feature colour on, which to me looks very unbalanced colour wise when doors are there. Unless you paint the door and arks the same teal colour? The sort of grey colour - it is gorgeous I vote artwork My karma ran over your dogma Re: Feature wall or not? 17Aug 11, 2010 7:00 pm Thanks all, the photos have really helped! I do love the colour of that top wall....BUT.......I was actually thinking all night at work about the door in the wall! So I've just had a bit of a smile when I read the above comments about said door! As I said-I have a couple of big canvases which I may just paint with the Wattyl Bouyance sample pot I've got and then add a touch of chocolate-maybe through some textiles! I think that a big canvas will help balance out the width of the couch as well (one on each of the walls that the couch will be against?) and draw the eye away from the door.
