Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Aug 02, 2010 9:29 am Hi, I'm very new to painting and everything to do with paint so please excuse my ignorance I recently went to Bunnings to buy a sample pot of Colorbond Surfmist as I am trying to touch up our external render. It doesn't help that we just recently purchased our house and we are uncertain as to the exact colour of our render. Hence, the purchase of the sample pot. When I asked for the sample pot, the lady gave us a choice of two different paint brands that we could use as a base to form the Colorbond Surfmist colour. I thought Colorbond external colours were formed from a particular paint brand such as Dulux? Secondly, if my assumption is incorrect and that we could use any paint brand for the base, how can we get consistency of the Colorbond colour if the base can be derived from different paint brands? I hope I havent confused everyone with my questions. Again, sorry for my ignorance Re: Colorbond External Colours 3Aug 03, 2010 9:12 am I don't think the colorbond colours are derived from dulux because they're registered to colorbond. Mixing paint usually starts with a base of white and the colour is added. Each paint company probably has their own base so getting exact colour consistency from all paint companies may not happen. But with a light colour like surfmist it would be less of an issue I assume. Re: Colorbond External Colours 4Aug 03, 2010 12:50 pm Thanks for your reply D@n So, from what you are saying, the Colorbond Colours are just a pre-mix that the painters use to mix into a base colour that could come from Taubmans or Dulux or whatever paint brand? I agree that it shouldn't really matter too much seeing I'm using Surfmist which is quite a light colour. I suppose so. I don't know where they get their colour or pigments from so I can't say for sure. The Dulux colour consultants are awesome. If you show them the photos they should be able to figure it out for you straight away 1 1618 Your house roof does not show rusting other than some surface rust on the flashings. In my opinion you dont need to replace or paint the roof other than treat surface rust… 1 10216 Hi all, Our boundary perimeter fences need replacing (3 sides). From everyone's experience, what would you install? Timber lapped and capped OR colorbond? Thank you. 0 2890 |
