Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jul 26, 2010 8:06 pm Hi everyone
I put this in Building a house but will put it here as might get more answers. Well finally we are at the selections stage and need to decide on a render colour. Ideas would be greatly appreciated. I will upload my facade for you to get an idea of the look we are after. Basically we are on 16 acres with bush surrounding, our house will not be seen from the road. Colours are Roof - Colourbond Dune Gutters and Fascia - Jasper Windows - Paperbark Bricks - PGH Torino Panellift door - Dune We have been to a display home which had the front render in Knave and Lundy Grey. We preferred the lighter colour but seeing it on the colour card it is a bit green. Also our bricks are not the same colour as the display home. Any suggestions appreciated Facade Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Thankyou ok so hopefully this all works now, first time loading images. Re: Ideas for a render colour???? 3Jul 27, 2010 8:28 pm Rhoff…I’m having a problem with the Jasper, it’s the only dark colour on your house. So it will create what is called “LINE” and this will be at your roof line level. So my suggestion would be Dune instead of the Jasper. Just my opinion. I am thinking maybe we could go a bit darker with the whole front, not too much darker than the knave but maybe a different colour tone???? More things to think about now although the Dune and Jasper combination are set as we have ordered our shed. mmmmmmmm Re: Ideas for a render colour???? 5Jul 28, 2010 6:31 pm If you like your colour selections, then that’s all that matters, sorry to confuse you. Who’s colour is the Knave, Dulux, Taubmans…….? Knave is a solver colour, that is who our builder uses. I had the big fan card/book but have given it back. Think I may need to grab it again. It is in a green type section of colours. Maybe I should go a brown/beige ??? Any opinions and ideas are a fantastic help Re: Ideas for a render colour???? 7Jul 29, 2010 11:32 am Hi Rhoff, we are in a similar situation to yourself. Have gone with Dune for roof, gutter and fascia and need a render colour to the front portico and window trim to contrase the pistachio brick. Knave looks like a nice colour, we will be having a look at solver colours over the weekend and will let you know what we thought looks good. We want something to make the renderd parts stand out, but not too much as we are having a timbergrain rollerdoor and matching front door, so whatever we choose for render will need to strike the fine line between standing out, and not competing/distracting from the timber elements. ps -You may already be aware, but Solver arent that good at giving colour reccomendations (compared to dulux stores), so if you go somewhere else, and see a dulux colour reccomended, you can take it to solver and have them make the same colour. They have a conversion book so they know how much tint to add etc. Might pay however to confirm with the builder they are happy to accept this at selections however. good luck ! Why are priates scary ? Because they yaargh.. Re: Ideas for a render colour???? 8Jul 29, 2010 8:43 pm Hi Captain Morgan I am not sure if we want to go too much darker than the knave, we have bush surrounds and I still want it to be light. Tossing up whether to go with two different colours like the display home we looked at. Can always change it later I guess. Good luck over the weekend and let me know how you go Re: Ideas for a render colour???? 9Jul 30, 2010 6:54 pm Hi, just read your posting. We have used dune for our roof and Lundy Grey as the main render colour. We are very happy with the Lundy Grey, it can look like brown, grey and green grey ... depending on the light. My builder told us our Lundy Grey was tinted 200%, but we have just had the external brick fencing done and the person doing our render said our colour was in fact just normal Lundy Grey ... looks like he was right too, because the walls were done in Lundy and it looks the exact same colour as the house. I love the Lundy Grey and thinks it goes really well with Dune. Here is my thread where I have posted some pics. Good luck, it's all so daunting gettng those colours right ... at the end of the day go with what you love (and get heaps of sample pots ... we went through 14 until we got it right) viewtopic.php?f=31&t=31932 Re: Ideas for a render colour???? 10Jul 30, 2010 9:16 pm I’ve lost track, how we going here? Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Ideas for a render colour???? 11Jul 30, 2010 9:40 pm Thankyou jaelee your home is amazing, and the colours look brilliant!!!!!!!!! Only thing that concerns me with the lundy grey is the fact that our bricks are a creamy/yellowy sort of colour. Will keep on looking as we still have some time. Did you do paint your sample pots on pieces of gyprock to see how they look outside???? Maybe that is the best thing to do and compare it to the brick when they are done..... Thankyou Re: Ideas for a render colour???? 12Jul 30, 2010 9:50 pm Rhoff, we painted the brick on our home but this isn't a good idea as we had to remove it for the render but it did give us a good idea (this was with our final choice of colours) Leading up to that I had painted plasterboard ... I painted various combinations together. I looked at it in the sunlight, shade, on site, pretty much everywhere. I did this over a period of nearly a year At the end we got there. See if you can get a couple of sample bricks of your home. You will get there in the end .. lots of trial and error, but soon it will just jump out at you that you have got what you want. We also did lots of drives in new estates looking at colour combinations too ... but in the end went with our own style and colours. Good luck. Hi Alex, Thanks for the reply again. I had a chat with the builder, he said he will use primer, then hydrotec which comes with colour and sealer as well.
