Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jul 25, 2010 2:24 pm Hubby and I have been overwhelmed with the choices in choosing a solid timber floor for our house.
We both initially wanted blackbutt but are now worried that it is too light and will blend in with our furniture which is made out of mountain ash. photos below. Our furniture colour has quite an orange/yellow tinge to it. Our flow through wall colour is Dulux "Bone White" which I absolutely love and the feature wall that we have in the living area is Wattyl "Scallopini". We then looked at spotted gum, but I did not like the greens and reds together in this combination. Brushbox???? Any suggestions???/ Anyone have the ability to photoshop different timbers in??? Very confused and would gladly accept any thoughts? Re: Help please on which timber floor??? 2Jul 25, 2010 2:33 pm Guess I also need help with inserting images??? Re: Help please on which timber floor??? 3Jul 25, 2010 3:14 pm i have brushbox timber flooring and in my opinion it goes with everything. I have maple, oregon, mahogany, blackwood and mountain ash timber furniture and the brushbox looks great with all of these. the spotted gum is lovely but it has alot of pattern and variation in the wood. Brushbox is nice but in select grade your starting at about $95 sq. metre for 80x19mm. (and you don't want feature brushbox) Perhaps look at tallowwood or grey ironbark if your not keen on reds Re: Help please on which timber floor??? 6Jul 25, 2010 5:53 pm After two hours of trying to upload my images I finally got it to work!!!! Have now added pics 7Jul 25, 2010 6:57 pm I also like tallowwood and grey ironbark, both are gorgeous. Grey IB is stunning, if you like darker timber. But I really love the lightest timbers too, eg. tassie oak and white mahogany. If you really want to select the species based on your furniture, looks like you'll have to decide between light and the dark timbers (including reds), not the ones in-between. If you like reds, Syd blue gum and Rose gum are amazing too, not sure of the price range. So, you've already done the plywood ... how long has it been down, ready for the flooring? Have now added pics 8Jul 25, 2010 7:02 pm White mahogany is not light, it is near identical to tallowwood. In fact most packs of tallowwood contain a percentage of white mahogany, the same as Sydney Blue Gum which contains a certain percentage of Rose (flooded) gum and vice versa. Mountain Ash is one of the species used in Tassie Oak (as well as Vic Ash) If you want a stunning red floor, Red Mahogany is hard to beat. Re: Help please on which timber floor??? Have now added pics 10Jul 25, 2010 7:40 pm I think I want to avoid the deep dark colours and especially dark reds. Re: Help please on which timber floor??? Have now added pics 11Jul 25, 2010 8:28 pm You're right Duke about WM ... it's indeed very similar to tallow (a tiny bit lighter, also it's similar to bbtt) - I knew that, and that it's very often mixed in ... had a pic of a WM floor in mind while I was writing this and it associated me with light timbers boo, how about killarney ash, that is very light? Also, do you want a homogenous colour or lots of variation? My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Help please on which timber floor??? Have now added pics 12Jul 25, 2010 8:51 pm I dont mind variation but not what is found in spotted gum, the colours within that are hugely different. Thank you. Do I use timber floorboards for stairs or do people use timber treads? Or is both the same? 6 7271 The requirement is for a waterstop to be installed to the entries of the room, (a small aluminum 'L' angle to retain the water to within the room) can't see if they have… 1 1934 Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15904 |
