Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jul 21, 2010 4:58 pm We've been looking at a few places and my partner really likes one with wood floors. I myself have always preferred light coloured carpet as I feel it "lifts" the room. Your eye isn't drawn downward due to darker floor colouring and lighter walls, you know? And I was thinking to myself, there ARE some wood flooring looks I like a lot, but they tend to always be slightly lighter more warm / honey coloured wood, and they're also in places that are quite luxurious in terms of the furnishings...AND the size of the rooms is big so the darker floor doesn't shrink the room...AND they have downlights so you get bursts of light on the floor, again "lifting" it... And then I also realised that the walls tend to be WHITE. Not cream or a really noticeable off white, but actual WHITE WHITE. Or if not completely bright white, COOL variation of white. Not warm variations. And in any place we ever buy that happens to have wood floors, we won't be able to afford downlights, we'll have no say over the size of the room, our furniture is quite nice as it is, but what we COULD do is change the wall colour. Do you agree that totally white walls suit darker wood floors better than cream walls? Here are some pics... This one is a room I really like. It's got quite a lot of furniture but it's light and bright with variations of white... I think the fact the room is small doesn't help my feelings though either. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Anyone agree? That wood floors go best with bright cool crisp white? How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: Wall colour with polished floors 2Jul 21, 2010 5:04 pm I think it depends on how much you like white walls I'd always be looking to have some colour in my walls, no matter what the floors are - and it just so happens that I prefer yellow/cream colours. It also doesn't help that I think all wooden floors look stunning (though I bet someone's going to post a horrendous wooden floor that'll make me retract that last statement) Re: Wall colour with polished floors 4Jul 21, 2010 7:37 pm Any colour goes with timber floors Grace, I am yet to see a colour that doesn’t! That’s the white wall and timber floor I like. Lol But yes, it is all very subjective. I’ve just never liked the “older style”, or “classic” look of off white / yellow-based cream walls and wood floors. I like the more fresh, crisp and “beach house” look of white wash and wood floors. YEP. lol How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Sorry, don't know costs, but there are a couple of very important principles you need to get right (and now) .... (1) never agree to any "upgrade" unless you first know… 5 6797 2 4657 3 5579 |
