Can I get away with a dark timber chair, like this one. Bear in mind that directly across from the eating area is our lounge room where there is a sofa with VERY dark timber legs & black side tables, : Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ reminder of the lounge room Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ or should I REALLY stick with a similar coloured timber, like this one ? Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ the reason I ask, is that the dark chairs need recovering which I want to do, in a soft green/olive. Great opportunity to get the end result I'm after in the colour I want. However, the tan coloured chairs don't need re-covering as they're supposedly in great condition & re-upholstery would be an unnecessary expense. I would then be stuck with a fabric cover I can live with but wouldn't be ideal. I know that in some cases, anything goes but would the 2 timber tones around the table be too much ? Not because I think unmatched timbers are a problem per se, but in this case the style of chair to table is also so different that I don't think the chairs will match enough. Are the dark chairs cheaper because they need new upholstery? I would pretend that the lighter timber chairs need to be re-upholstered & do these in the fabric you want. Re: WHICH DINING CHAIR ? 3Jul 21, 2010 9:55 am Southies, it sounds like you really want the dark timber ones so that you can re-upholster them. I know the table stays, but can it be sanded back and restained to match the dark chairs and the other furniture? I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: WHICH DINING CHAIR ? 4Jul 21, 2010 9:59 am Sorry, I'm a fan of matching at least *something* in the room, and if you go with the dark legs, then the table is odd one out. So unless you're planning on changing that some point fairly soon I think you'll have to go with the light legs on the chairs. Re: WHICH DINING CHAIR ? 6Jul 21, 2010 10:04 am yeah......I thought your comments would confirm that & that I should stick with the light-coloured timber. I can't re-sand the table. I should......it's about due, but to change the colour would be too drastic. OK so it's the light-coloured chairs then. Thanks everybody I really shouldn't doubt my instincts . I wouldn't worry that the table and chair styles are different if I tied them together with a similar colour. Sorry. I'm on a sanding and staining spree at the moment, recycling things like mad.
