Re: any chance of seeing everyone's curtains??? 2Jul 14, 2010 5:55 pm As you have not built yet and are considering curtains, then consider window placement and surrounding wall space - look at this thread where some issues/challenges have come up after build http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=33651 Layers ie lined or better interlined and lined curtains which trap air inbetween are much more effective than roller blind for retaining heat. Re: any chance of seeing everyone's curtains??? 3Jul 14, 2010 6:03 pm 4walls is RIGHT! Roller blinds are inefficient thermally. We have them throughout our house & if I could do it again, I would install curtains instead. I went for rollers because I wanted a no-fuss, low maintenance, streamlined look but found that they let the cold in in winter & let heat in in summer. Also, they add very little visual appeal to a room. My mother said : Curtains in a room are like lipstick on a woman. I poo pooed her comment but now having lived with rollers, I realise she was right But that's just my personal experience. It won't be the same for everybody. They are a nice textured weave with a white blockout backing. They certainly dont let in the heat or the cold or the glare. My windows are very pretty colonial style therefore I wanted a plain window treatment. I also have a nice view so only wanted the blinds to keep the sun from my timber floors and furniture. As soon as the sun has moved, up go the blinds. I agree that roller blinds are plain and that is why I have plantation shutters elsewhere and I am still deliberating over a curtain for my problem dining window which has a bulkhead. see my thread further down.
