Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jul 14, 2010 3:40 pm Hey all, So I've run out of time and need to come up with a fairly simple colour scheme. So far I have the following ideas: Walls: 1. Dulux Grand Piano Quarter 2. Dulux White Duck Quarter 3. Dulux Antieque White USA (Or possibly 1 colour for downstairs and 1 colour for upstairs) Trims/Doors 1. Natural White I have grey aluminum windows, my kitchen benches are polytech classic white sheen and I haven't picked tiles yet. I like white but am trying to avoid too vivid a white because I'm worried it would make the yellow in the classic white of the cabinets stand out. I'm hoping natural white is just off enough to hide it. I'm going for a contemporary look and I'm a bit worried antique white might come off as a bit pink but it seems to be fairly bright so far. My house is a modern design. Any thoughts on what the best combo would be? Thanks in advance Re: The usual.. whites and walls 3Jul 14, 2010 5:06 pm And now whisper white has entered the fray :/ Anyone have any idea which of those colours make good combos for walls +trims? Whisper white White Duck Quarter Antique White USA Natural White Grand Piano Quarter Re: The usual.. whites and walls 4Jul 14, 2010 6:54 pm Why not go one colour full strength for the walls and the same colour but 1/2 or 1/4 strength for the trims - that's what we have chosen with Lexicon - no pics as yet though sorry haven't started our build yet EDIT: Spelling error Sleven Moved into our Atlantique MkII 36 by Carlisle Homes Re: The usual.. whites and walls 5Jul 14, 2010 8:36 pm I prefer one colour through out, so for you that would be one colour upstairs and the same down stairs, makes it so much more easier! I like Whisper White, but to be truthful, there’s very little difference in Whisper White and Natural White, so I would go a solid white for your trims. I'm so glad to hear this as it's exactly what we've gone for We have done whisper white in our last two builds and like it so much, we are doing it again! This is the first time though that we are doing it with solid white trims and doors. Re: The usual.. whites and walls 7Jul 16, 2010 12:14 pm Hi guys, Thanks for the advice. What do you mean by solid white for trims? Solid, being pure white like the stuff builders use on ceilings? It might be hard to answer, but can you think of why you prefer whisper white over natural white? I'm pretty indifferent, I just felt that natural white was a bit brighter and might go with warmer colours (beiges) easier. So far I'm down to: 1. Grand Piano Quarter + <natural/whisper> white trims 2. <natural/whisper> white throughout I was a bit concerned that that much white would make the area seem cold or boring. I know I can dress it up with furniture down the line but I assume thats still true with grand piano quarter as well. Re: The usual.. whites and walls 8Jul 16, 2010 2:53 pm What are you having on your floors?? That can make a huge difference to how cold or boring a house can be with so much white. I love lots of white, as I like being able to change my soft furnishings whenever I feel like and change the whole feel of a room Re: The usual.. whites and walls 9Jul 16, 2010 5:24 pm I'm having tiles downstairs and carpet upstairs. Not sure on which one in particular yet, which I know, makes it really hard since I'm apparently I should have picked the tiles first. I'm trying to avoid the "A guy designed this house" effect, which so far has been pretty evident in my other selections . Re: The usual.. whites and walls 10Jul 16, 2010 5:35 pm Sheepdog, I see a tinge of grey to the grand piano (could just be my eyes ) and that would work really well with your window frames. Do you definitely want your trims to be a different colour to the walls? Or would you be happy for it to be the same? I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: The usual.. whites and walls 11Jul 16, 2010 6:00 pm I just thought it would be a nice effect, I liked the idea of having white doors for example. I also have my polytec kitchen cupboards in classic white sheen (not as white as designer white) so figured it would tie in a bit. Re: The usual.. whites and walls 14Jul 19, 2010 1:54 pm Do you find it dark at all? I'm guessing not if you chose to have it everywhere What did you do for your trims and if you were going to go with lighter trims/doors, do you have any recommendation? Thanks a bunch for your reply Re: The usual.. whites and walls 16Jul 19, 2010 3:48 pm Your house does look great and its the kind of colour scheme I wanted, quite modern but still warm. I just hope my house is bright enough. The reason I wanted to go white trims is because I was planning to do my stair case balustrade in a bright white but am trying to find a good one to complement, and also figured it would be good for the trims to match that as well. Argh, too many choices. Re: The usual.. whites and walls 18Jul 20, 2010 8:00 am I have White Duck 1/2 throughout my house with Lexicon trims and ceilings which I absolutely love. Re: The usual.. whites and walls 19Jul 20, 2010 10:49 am White Duck would be my choice out of those on your list sheepdog. Sheepdog I'm leaning a bit towards white duck quarter now. I wanted the trims to be lighter but also tie in well as to not make it too obvious. We have the one colour throughout the house (White Pepper) including trims. Even though the woodwork is the same colour, because it's gloss, it does come up ever so slightly lighter than the walls. Sheepdog I'm trying to avoid the "A guy designed this house" effect, which so far has been pretty evident in my other selections . ^^ I don't think you have to worry about this. The colours you've narrowed it down to have been used on some of the forum's most stylish homes. You won't go wrong no matter which way you go.
