Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jul 05, 2010 4:29 pm We are moving our home based business into a new shop front. Obviously from the pictures it used to be an old house and the previous owner just added signs and painted it for his business. Now it is ours and we want to make it more modern and pleasing to the eye without it costing a fortune. In my dreams and if money wasn't an object I would love to render it an off white colour, replace that red picket fence/screen thingy with horizontal hardwood slats. Get rid of that stripey awning and put something more modern there to block the hot afternoon sun. Not sure what. But seeing we are woking with a budget I think the render will have to be put on hold. We got a quote to paint the screen thing, the gutters awning and facias and those blinds. But I think we should jsut take those blinds off completely that are outside the windows behind the bushes. I will try and put the hardwood screen up, we will still paint the gutters and facias. The colour we are thinging is either a moroon-ey red, or dark/navy blue (the 2 colours of our business logo) Water blast the mould off the cement driveway. Hmm what else? Those bricks really irk me as well as the door for some reason. What about the rocks in garden beds? Should they stay or should they go? Does anyone have any other suggestions or ideas? Should I not do anything of the things I have suggested? Thanks for all your help. Rip down the ugly red awnings and get some steel framed sun barriers that just bolt onto the wall. Either paint that red wood thing, or rip it down and get a colourbond or timber screen fence made (whatever is cheaper). Get rid of the red gutter, just paint it. Red only suits a pizza hut or red rooster. Obviously, store the bins somewhere else, nobody wants to walk past a garbage bin on the way inside. Strip and paint the carport. Just my suggestions. To make it somewhat more professional looking. Re: Exterior Makeover to a commercial Property. 3Jul 05, 2010 7:03 pm Firstly….well done on your home business to grow enough for you to move to a shop front! I agree, taka the awnings off and put roller blinds up in the windows(internally) to use when needed. Bins are ugly out the front, but I guess you know that and will move those out of the way. Leave the rocks, my guess is the soli under them is pretty bad and nothing will grow in it. So put a couple of nice ceramic pots there with hardy plants in them to help modernize the frontage. Get rid of the fence thing…..what is that anyway? Not very inviting to customers. What business do you have? And yes, strip and pain the carport as said. You possibly won’t need to render by the time all this is done, save your $$$$$’s Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Exterior Makeover to a commercial Property. 4Jul 05, 2010 11:16 pm Thanks for those tips. Our business is mortgage broking. And I have NO idea what that red wooden thingy is out the front. My only guess is that it was for shade to the window behind it. ahh yes the bins will be out the back. As for the carport, there will be our signs on the front of it, as well as the light up sign on the top of the roof. thanks again and if anyone else has any thing let me know. sandra You might be able to apply to divert the sewer at your expense.
