I have said many times in the past…..stick with the paint you know and ask for! If you want Dulux, get them to quote Dulux, I can not tell everyone how many arguments I have had with painters in the past about this issue. If they have an issue….then get over it and charge more, you get what you pay for with painting, and I don’t care what people say about that….its true. (the painting hasn't been done yet) After seeing your photos I am panicking now too. They look nothing like the Dulux sample card I have here. They are MUCH more yellow. When we picked that colour we thought we were picking a beige colour, certainly not a yellow. I'll be very interested to hear your outcome. I really feel for you and hope everything turns out well. For your own piece of mind. You already say that it appears to differ ever so slightly from the sample - but on the large scale and with 2 coats, the ever so slight colour difference might make all the difference! Good luck! I'm panicking too Jenni . Is this really what it looks like? We certainly don't want ANY yellow tint to the paint. Our rental has a yellow kitchen and loungeroom and it is not a look I want to take to the new house. Michelle - is this something we should worry about? I don't think it's too late for us to change our paint colour. Should Hog Bristle 1/2 look yellow???? Oh, I'm stressing. I soooo don't want yellow walls Re: I hate my paint colour - Hogs Bristle 1/2 45Jul 03, 2010 11:45 pm i have something i need to get off my chest..i feel that there is also something missing here when it comes to paint colour i am certainly no expert and when i speak in this forum its generally because i have something to learn or try and stop someone learning the hard way as i have with most things with houses....so here goes your surroundings in any particular room HAS THE POWER TO CHANGE YOUR PAINT COLOUR aswell. pretty bald statement i know.. now ill explain how i learned this too late. Previously i mentioned the paint colour Tristram (which is a beautiful modern beige shade) applied this to main living walls. ive read from numerous ppl on this item alone say they dont want that yellow tinge. My old house i brought up the old timber cyprus pine floors looked a million bucks, but the floor reflection for the better half of the day changed the paint colour and shaded it with yellow. in the night time the downlights made it even worse. if you are laying any kind of blonde timber down then PLEASE take this into account. and those of you who are using downlights ( and i think this will be most of us then make sure of the globes your putting in it dont give that yellow/gold shine. speak to your electrician and tell him to use pure white. they cost a little more but ide rather that than always have this in the back of your mind. now im going to post these pics the realestate took when selling so you can see the real colour of those walls. now what you wont see is what the photographer had to bring in as far as lighting and special filters to avoide the above so potential clients could see the real colour. I too thought about the flash from the camera, but disregarded it as I take a lot of photos, and it has never distorted paint colours that much. All I can say here to everyone is this……. This seems to be a one off problem that we know about with Hog Bristle. Now how many times has this colour been used on this forum? STACKS…..so many I think half the forum has Hog in their house. Now how many times has someone come back with this problem????????? NONE! So there you go, that’s it in a nut shell…..I say again, it’s a mix issue. Please let this be a warning to everyone, you run the risk of this happening when you choose one brand of colour, and it gets mixed in another brand of paint. OR…….you tint a colour up from its original colour….say ½ or ¼ strength, and the mixer gets it wrong. (I never leave the paint shop without checking the paint against my sample, and I made my painter do the same thing when he painted MY house a year ago) Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: I hate my paint colour - Hogs Bristle 1/2 48Jul 04, 2010 6:58 am Wow - an interesting read of everyone comments - thanks. We thought we were getting Dulux. Our builder told us that we can choose any paint colour - the base has to be solver but we can get Dulux tint. The painter i guess has then decided to get solver tint. So do you think I have a battle to get it changed? Lex You already say that it appears to differ ever so slightly from the sample - but on the large scale and with 2 coats, the ever so slight colour difference might make all the difference! I think this is exactly what's happened. One wall of the garage wasn't done in the final coat and I said to the painter "that's a different colour" and he said "we haven't rolled the final coat". That wall was a nicer colour to the end result of the rest of the house. It is definitely when the final coat is being done that it is changing the look and making it yellow!!! Also does solver have a responsibility to ensure that the colour is matched correctly to someone else's brand of paint? Ohhhhh I'm really stressing about this. Re: I hate my paint colour - Hogs Bristle 1/2 49Jul 04, 2010 7:07 am Once you get confirmation from the Dulux spectrometer……..you then go back to the store your painter got the paint mixed from. And take it from there. BUT….you need that confirmation before you start jumping up and down. If the paint is wrong…..then its wrong, simple as that, and the paint store will have to recognize that. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: I hate my paint colour - Hogs Bristle 1/2 50Jul 04, 2010 7:08 am By the way…Its NOT Solvers fault……it’s the paint shops fault, or better still, the person who mixed the paint…..NOT Solver. Re: I hate my paint colour - Hogs Bristle 1/2 52Jul 04, 2010 8:11 pm n&n02 Thanks everyone for your replies. mishb Wow, I have HB half in my house, and it does not look yellow at all. I would NOT be happy if I were you. Hi mishb, do you mind posting a pic of your wall colour (or pm me?). One other thing I just remembered was that the painter had a number of dulux paint catalogues there and was showing us the different variations of HB because every brochure had a different version of the colour - so which one do you go off? How do you find the accurate HB? These are the walls in the original part of my house, the lower part is HB half, and the upper part is HB quarter. To me, it doesn't look at all yellow. I'm very 'yellow sensitive', the original colour of the walls was a butter yellow, I wanted to get rid of it as I hate yellow, so if there had been much yellow tinge in the HB it wouldn't be there! Fairly blurry photos, sorry about that. I feel so so sorry for the painter he has done such an amazing job on the paint – it looks perfect (the painting not the colour!). The doors have been done in full gloss white (same as archs) and they look amazing too – like absolutely perfect!! I feel so bad for wanting it changed but we went back to the house and I took a good look around to see if it has grown on me - but I really can’t live with that colour. In the front rooms and activity room it is hideously yellow!! So not a modern colour either – sort of 1970’s or something… (And I took a look again at that dulux sample card and where the painter smeared our HB paint on it and I don’t know what the painter and my DH are saying but the two are nothing alike! So much for being really, really similar – there is a substantial difference – even I can tell and I know nothing about paint). Re: I hate my paint colour - Hogs Bristle 1/2 54Jul 05, 2010 11:02 am Oh and thanks so much mishb for posting those photos That is the colour I want I will show it to my dh when he gets home tonight so he can see the difference. Re: I hate my paint colour - Hogs Bristle 1/2 56Jul 05, 2010 12:36 pm Lex Are your doors painted in oil based paint or water based? (Can you ask the painter if you don't know right away?) Hi Lex. No the trims and doors are done in dulux white on white – a great match to the pearl white windows. It looked really good. I wanted him to use just the gloss white out of the tin but he explained about the yellowing that occurs and how he can't guarantee it will be white so he suggested the white on white to us when we were trying to match a white to the frames. Good news !! The painter just phoned me and said that the problem is sorted! Apparently the tinting machine wasn’t disbursing enough tint!! So he now has the new colour which he said he is 100% happy with. He’ll start re-painting one room today and then he wants us to go onsite tomorrow am to confirm it’s okay then he’ll finish the job. Poor guy – I feel really sorry for him... Re: I hate my paint colour - Hogs Bristle 1/2 57Jul 05, 2010 12:41 pm n&n02 Lex Are your doors painted in oil based paint or water based? I'm glad to hear it's all been resolved. I had all sorts of similar problems when trying to choose a colour to paint my walls.
