I've just ordered some hats from the US & wasn't charged anything but wondering if I'll be hit various Oz taxes/duties if ordering loads of fabric for my curtains.

exchange fee is what your bank/credit card provider charge, not the government.
Other things to consider: You should have the fabric delivered on the roll, which will not be cheap on postage. Associated costs from the risk the fabric supplied is faulty. There is also a big difference seeing fabric on line and then in reality.
You can import up to $1000 without getting hit for GST &/or import duties.

could not possibly answer that - can vary from company to company, and some types of fabric can be more prone to faults than others. Some faults require a keen eye to spot them. Some faults are not faults at all, but characteristics of the fabric
I am on the hunt for some unique fabrics that I can buy online
Much appreciated, thanks!
