I am looking for a person - not company - to make me curtains.
I can source the fabric myself but don't trust my machine to be able to handle sheer fabrics.
Is there anyone out there who can do this AND more importantly does it well ?

Re: Curtain Seamstress 4Jun 26, 2010 8:34 pm Have you asked around? Go to the local bowling club...surely bound to find a few that are experts with this. Re: Curtain Seamstress 5Jun 26, 2010 8:36 pm dollar, we're new to the area, so don't have contacts like that. Might talk to a couple of my neighbours though but not holding out much hope . Re: Curtain Seamstress 7Jun 26, 2010 8:41 pm D, I'd rather find someone through recommendation. There are many well-intentioned people out there I'm sure, whose 'talents' might very well be self over-rated Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade Re: Curtain Seamstress 8Jun 26, 2010 8:42 pm True Southies you are right. It just may not turn out to be just a curtain. Hope you find someone. Re: Curtain Seamstress 9Jun 27, 2010 11:08 am Southies have you inquired at your local Spotlight, or similar? Some stores keep a list of contacts for similar jobs. Sorry, I don't take on curtain jobs these days and not being local to your area doesn't help either as having to sew to another person's measurements is not satisfactory and can end in tears. Suppose you have googled for sewing groups in your area? but as you've already mentioned getting a good job done is half the problem. I've seen some shockers!! Good luck!! Re: Curtain Seamstress 10Jun 27, 2010 12:22 pm Hey HappyCamper_au, googling only comes up with sewing classes. I've thought about approaching LIncraft & Spotlight but I don't think they'd offer contacts of their sewers, would they? They'd prefer to have my business & do my curtains themselves, wouldn't they? Quote: getting a good job done is half the problem My mother had 8LM of pinch pleat curtains made by a national company & the spacing between the pinches were atrocious . Unfortunately, I didn't see the poor work until weeks later, so it was too late to complain. Years later, she had the same curtains replaced along with the tracks, by another major national chain & the tracks were coming down & also she couldn't fully open the curtains Bloody hopeless!! Needless to say, she & I AND our friends won't be going to either of those companies. I think it depends on the particular Spotlight store or department manager, can't comment on Lincraft because they didn't have a store near where I was living. Might be worth asking. A phone call to your local TAFE might be another option, although I'm not sure what classes they offer these days or the skill level and qualifications of the students. If I think of anything else I'll get back to you. Re: Curtain Seamstress 12Jul 02, 2010 4:45 pm THe Rockdale Spotlight store couldn't help with a contact. Will ring Licdombe Spotlight Monday & will pop in to Miranda LIncraft tomorrow ;& have a chat. BTW, got a quote from a business in Caringbah which included a $220 charge to "check measure & install the curtains " ..... I don't think so Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade |
