Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jun 21, 2010 1:14 pm How accurate are colour matches across brands? I.e. if I want a Dulux colour in Wattyl paint (or vice versa) is the colour I get going to be the same? The colour brochures put out by the paint brands suggest there won't be a perfect match, but I am guessing this is mostly marketing? Thanks Re: Colour matching between paint brands 2Jun 21, 2010 2:13 pm it depends. Sometimes the tinting formula is converted from one brand to another as the base colour. Or they may use the same formula (say dulux) and put it in a haymes tin. I actually think if you go to a store like paint spot that sell all brand they can use dulux tint in a taubans paint can and it should give a very good color match, because the bases are pretty much the same (ie white) Even if the color is slightly different it wont matter. I trust you will even notice. The paint always looks different on the walls anyway. Re: Colour matching between paint brands 3Jun 21, 2010 6:00 pm It can vary sometimes; always take the original colour in a chip with you when you are getting paint mixed in a different brand. This way you have something to come back on if it doesn’t come out the same colour. NEVER…..leave the store without checking the paint first with your chip of colour. I’ve had paints made in other brands and they have been perfect. BUT….always go to a REAL paint store to get paint mixed. Borg, I notice when the paint is slightly not the same colour. With Dulux, what you see is what you get in paint colour, and they always look the same on the walls as my A4 swatches.
