Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jun 18, 2010 1:00 pm Hi all, This is my first post! My partner and I recently bought a house and we are looking to have it repainted before we move in. My partner really wants a red feature wall in the lounge room. The reds on the table at the moment are Red Heart, Red Box, Lady in Red, Wineberry, and Red... something else by Nippon (sorry, too many reds to remember). The lounge room is small but open plan with the dining room and kitchen and should get a lot of natural light (it has east, north, and west windows). The red wall would be the one furtherest from all the windows, if that makes sense. We need to pick a white that will work well with red. Some constraints: - I am anti anything too yellowy as the place we are in at the moment has very yellowy-cream walls and they just rub me the wrong way. - We'd prefer something lightening because of the small space but not too cool and clinical. Any ideas and photos for whites? I have had a browse around the site and seen some, but none up against reds. (Also, if anyone has any views on any reds that are warm but not too glaring that would be great). Thanks so much! Re: Whites... that go with reds... help! :) 2Jun 18, 2010 1:26 pm Hi honeydew, Welcome to the forum In our last place we renovated we had Dulux Henna Red and Ecru. Not a white (a neutral color) but the color gurus will come along soon Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Bel Still not in. Don't ask!? Re: Whites... that go with reds... help! :) 3Jun 18, 2010 3:36 pm Thanks Bel. Henna Red looks nice. Is "Ecru" a bit like a darker version of "China White"? There's a nice picture (number 13) on this site: http://www.dulux.com.au/colour/colour-g ... allery/red Re: Whites... that go with reds... help! :) 4Jun 18, 2010 6:16 pm No probs. I'll say yes that Ecru is a darker version than China White - But Michelle will be able to tell you for sure On the dulux specifier site the are next to each other - I'm sure sure if that means they are "related" Gee I hope you get what I'm saying as it doesn't really make much sense does it!!!! Winnow can look a bit scary while it is being painted, but you have to hang in as when it is finished it’s a nice warm white. Currently we seem to be stuck on: Feature wall - Nippon Wineberry Walls - Dulux Hog Bristle Quarter Ceiling - Dulux Fair Bianca Half Does anyone see any obvious problems with that or has anyone tried any of those colour combinations themselves? Re: Whites... that go with reds... help! :) 7Jun 19, 2010 5:47 pm With quarter Hogs Bristle, I would use that on your ceilings, you don’t need to go any lighter. But looks good! I've used alot of blood red in my house as accents but the main walls/ceilings/skirts are Haymes WhiteWash which is a fantastic colour. Re: Whites... that go with reds... help! :) 9Jun 21, 2010 8:36 pm Any thoughts (or images) for Stowe White, Berkshire White, Grand Piano Half/Quarter, or Natural White? In particular - how yellow/warm/lightening they are on their own or compared with each other. (Thanks for the suggestions so far - I just find it so hard to settle on a colour!). Hi there, long-time lurker but first time posting. I've bought a house 2 and a bit years ago and last year we had some major water damage on a converted pergola area… 0 7925 Yes, unless you are in a low intensity rainfall area or the area is protected from rain. Do you have access to NCC Part 2 or can you download it? I can email you a copy… 10 12462 Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7143 |
