Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jun 15, 2010 6:20 pm I am trying to decorate on a tight budget, so new paint and curtains are it for the time being. At the moment we have salmon pink walls, salmonpink curtains and carpet and a lot of exposed brick walls. Also have cork tiles (which I love). Our furniture is leather just the normal brown/tan colour. I want to paint all walls and ceilings white and then put up maybe sage green/ light olive curtains. White though, I had no idea there were so many. I was thinking antique white but I saw it at a friend's house and it can look a bit dull/grubby and thought lexicon might be a better choice. Just have no idea how it will all look together. Any ideas, advice greatly appreciated. Re: Help with colour choices please 2Jun 15, 2010 8:02 pm Lexicon is a good colour choice! Nice and bright and fresh. Love the idea of the sage green and olive, sounds good, good luck with it, you are on the right track! I just want to tone down this 80s pink. Would you just go straight lexicon or 1/2 or 1/4? Also as our ceilings are only 8 foot I thought painting walls, cornices and ceilings would give a much airier feel - is this right? and do we just use wash and wear or low sheen Re: Help with colour choices please 4Jun 15, 2010 9:44 pm A couple of months ago we painted our bedroom lexicon 1/2 next to a feature wall of scallopini (a latte sort of neutral brown) and the walls looked baby blue!!! major disaster!! i think it had a lot to do with the 'warm' feature wall colour and the amount of light in our room beacause i have seen lexicon 1/2 before and it looked great. i think sticking with cool colours it would be perfect. Good luck!! Re: Help with colour choices please 5Jun 16, 2010 6:26 pm I would not ½ or ¼ Lexicon…..it’s a colour that does not need to be lightened in anyway. That’s why kaz101 found it on the blue side. When you lighten a colour, the main pigments in that colour become more prominent. Its full strength for Lexicon. Its as close to white as you can get without it being a pure white. So if your after a white, Lexicon is the colour for you. Good luck!! We're using Scallopini for all our wall colours with white ceilings, architraves & skirtings. A little concerned that it might be a bit too dark but like the idea of a real colour on the walls. Something that stands out from the white. Michelle, do you think Scallopini is too dark? Kaz101, do you have a photo of your bedroom? Re: Help with colour choices please 8Jun 16, 2010 11:33 pm Hey catjim, i hope these photos work..i'm very new to this... we love love love the scallopini..but it is only a feature wall so not exactly sure how it would look on all walls... but it is not a 'dark' colour at all.. i think its a pretty perfect neutral actually. It is the wall on the right in the photos...the other walls are another wattyl colour not exactly sure what- that was a last minute emergency decision to cover the baby blue! a little bit too pink i think but they will do for now! http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/4449/bedroom001.jpg http://img691.imageshack.us/img691/8420/bedroom003.jpg http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/218/bedroom004.jpg kaz Re: Help with colour choices please 9Jun 17, 2010 7:35 am kaz101 Hey catjim, i hope these photos work..i'm very new to this... we love love love the scallopini..but it is only a feature wall so not exactly sure how it would look on all walls... but it is not a 'dark' colour at all.. i think its a pretty perfect neutral actually. I think it looks great and only time will tell how it looks on all walls. Hopefully the house is open enough that it can pull it off. And it's only paint so can be changed later on if it's too dark. Re: Help with colour choices please 10Jun 17, 2010 10:48 am We painted our walls Lexicon full strength with white cornices and ceiling. There is a blue tinge in my house. Im wondering if it would be less noticeable if we did the ceilings maybe 1/4... How about whisper white? We were initially going to use this, but I think I read somewhere in the forum, it can sometimes have a green tinge? We were going with greys so the lexicon really suits, you are going with greens so maybe the whisper white might suit? Re: Help with colour choices please 11Jun 17, 2010 10:56 am Oh dear, I am getting confused. I really think I need to go with sage green curtains as the only thing that will tone down/or go with the salmon carpet (atm there are very full salmon pink curtains up). Also two of the walls in each room are brick, more a brown with black splotches rather than red. After reading that the lexicon can look blue I looked at the samples again and wondered about white on white and whisper white. I just cannot for the life of me use my imagination to think what it will look like.
Michelle, please, if you are listening, reading what are your thoughts on the whisper white or white on white?? I tried inserting using the formula above to no avail. So sorry, you are such a generous lady with your time and advice. The only way I can see to show you is to email them as attachments. I think I will probably go with the sage curtains as Spotlight has a 20% off sale today so will go in to Newcastle this afternoon - really can't think of any other colour to go with the pink carpet. Then it is just to find the correct white which I want to use right through the house. One is the Lexicon full strength, the other is Natural White, both by Dulux. You need to paint them up about 20inches away from each other, and you need 2 coats of both. Leave them there for a while as you do your daily things, even if it takes a few days, you will soon know which one you want to use, or neither. One is a cool white the other is a warm white. Let me know how you go. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7291 Thank you @.
