Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jun 14, 2010 11:33 am Hi guys, We used to have a tv in the family room but after a number of entertainment evenings where people were scattered about not knowing where to sit/stand we thought we'd boot the tv out to another room and move things around to make a larger entertaining area that better complemented the alfreso also. The space we created was perhaps a little bigger than we expected Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ So far suggestions are * A chunky bard book case * A large floor lamp * A canvas I just cannot picture any of these things filling/fixing the space. Does anyone have any ideas we could try out? Re: What to do with a large empty wall in our Illoura? 3Jun 14, 2010 3:45 pm I think the problem is that your couch doesnt fill the space adequately so it doesnt look proportional. I wouldnt put a book case, it would end up looking too cluttered. Unless you get one of those open cubed shelve things and put a few things in as featyres like photos, a vase etc If you have a lamp, keep in mind the power cord. And I think it would need to be a wide lamp too to fit the space Hard Custom European Cabinets - Melbourne Kitchen Specialist PM for business details as website currently being updated! Re: What to do with a large empty wall in our Illoura? 4Jun 14, 2010 6:47 pm Yeah agree with the couch - What about pulling moving the couch around so it face the wall and then you can have a low line long book shelf/console table under the plantation shutters with vases etc on it. To balance the couch out you could get a single arm chair to go on the wall with a side/lamp table to match the console table? About 12-16 in total... different sizes. Being where your family room is your the house, I'd love to do the same to that wall. Show off some of your favourite pics... everyone who visits your house is greeted by the wall when they walk down the hall and into the kitchen/dining area Re: What to do with a large empty wall in our Illoura? 6Jun 14, 2010 6:59 pm Totally seperate to helping you with the wall-other than saying that I wouldný change the orientation of the couch because it would close the space up...but what colour is your wall painted? I really like it and it looks like your floor tiles are nearly the same as ours.... We used to have the TV against that wall and the couch ran along the wall on the right and in front of the kitchen and yeah it did make it seem a little cramped. I might see if Freedom sell a single modular of that sofa (I really doubt it) as that might make the gap smaller and easier to fill with a lamp or something. I don't mind the idea of a canvas or a painting or the like. Jackie is already onto photos to run down the wall in the hall, seems like you guys were thinking a similar thing. Re: What to do with a large empty wall in our Illoura? 8Jun 14, 2010 7:29 pm Thanks for that...what about a tall indoor plant (fake or real) in a funky pot? I wanted something that was tall enough to fill height and maybe something that had a branch that might go over the couch (even if it was only a little 1ft branch hanging out the side). But we haven't found anything fake that looks like we're after and I'm not very good at picking/looking after real plants If you find any photos that look like your thinking post them pleeeze Re: What to do with a large empty wall in our Illoura? 10Jun 14, 2010 7:43 pm Go to Google images and type in indoor plant... One large one and 2 smaller ones. You would have a hard time killing one for these! Madonna Lilly. Not too far to waste space but enough to give it room to breath so to speak. I did the same with my corner chaise and it seems to sit much better in the space. The seating is arranged so that we can see out into the alfresco when entertaining and we also have the TV against the wall where you used to have yours. We are thinking that we may wall mount it later on, so it takes up less room. We also have the same chalk beige paint http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i60/Hels-b/Post%20Construction/14June3.jpg Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new.
