Re: What to do with a large empty wall in our Illoura? 23Jul 25, 2010 10:25 pm Thanks for all the suggestions guys, we decided that we wanted something functional so we started looking at book shelfs. We found one we liked... one problem.. it was $1700!!! So I took some mental notes and decided I'd try to replicate the design at home with bunnings materials. I figured I'd only spend $30 at bunnings and try to build the ends (the most complicated part of the design) first. If they looked okay then I'd push on, if not I throw it away and I'd only be $30 the worse. If you had them side by side they'd look nothing alike I'm sure of it but after a few hours in the garage and some time to dry here's the ends of the shelf getting a test fit for size and color. I tried to take the pics from the same place so you can work out if it'll fill the space from what we started with. Still some work to go on the ends to get them finished ready for the shelfs, like filling screw holes etc. I think it'll work great filled with cushions packed in on the bottom (like you see at all the homewares stores) and some display candles up the top, but let me know what you think. Let me know if you think its worth finishing up or any changes that might get it on the right track. Re: What to do with a large empty wall in our Illoura? 24Jul 26, 2010 8:41 am I think that's a great idea. Kind of like a ladder... We're after a smaller version in our ensuite for towels etc Re: What to do with a large empty wall in our Illoura? 25Jul 26, 2010 8:43 am Yep we made a bamboo one for our bathroom for the same purpose Re: What to do with a large empty wall in our Illoura? 26Jul 26, 2010 9:24 am I'm still leaning towards a painting/canvas/photo/decal/etc above the couch - that space still seems empty. Bookshelves look awesome so far, though! (and the space might not seem as empty once the shelves are up and full) Re: What to do with a large empty wall in our Illoura? 27Jul 26, 2010 9:29 am looks great mikkyg well done! the room is gorgeous, I tend to agree with sweetime, a picture above the couch would finish it all off beautifully "Your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts, and you are the slave to your emotions." — Elizabeth Gilbert Living in our new house. I think with both it will look cluttered but Jackie was VERY quick to suggest that she'll take the shelves into her study if it's all a bit too much Re: What to do with a large empty wall in our Illoura? 29Jul 26, 2010 12:08 pm Can't wait to see the final result! Those shelves are coming along nicely BTW! I love indoor plants and found this website that is very reasonably priced... http://www.greeneryimports.com.au/store ... doorPlants Has anyone heard of it or purchased anything from there? I think I might have to! I am looking for a a large indoor plant. Any suggestions as to what I should go with and what sort of pot I should buy? Thanks Building Atlantique 36 At fix stage Re: What to do with a large empty wall in our Illoura? 31Jul 30, 2010 3:59 pm I had a little bit of spare time today so put together a little but more of the shelf. More pictures of course, just some staining of the shelves to go and I'll call it done. I just grabbed some stuff to put on it so it didn't look to weird but i'm sure Jackie will go on a spending spree to fill it with more cushions for the theater room Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I don't think it fills the space 100%, and it may look over crowded with the picture we were originally thinking. It might look better when its finished staining and probably better again when its got a few mote things on it. Will have to finish it up and see how it grows on me. Either way beats paying $1700 for the one we saw in the window, I think this one would be a pretty good replica if I do say so myself Re: What to do with a large empty wall in our Illoura? 32Jul 30, 2010 4:01 pm Re: What to do with a large empty wall in our Illoura? 34Jul 30, 2010 7:35 pm very nice! How about a pair of not too huge pictures for above the couch? I think they might be less dominating than one big one. You could use framed photo enlargements, or buy something to suit. Re: What to do with a large empty wall in our Illoura? 36Jul 30, 2010 9:40 pm What Kek said! Plus you could actually go with 3 continuing around the corner and add one to the wall next to your shutters..... Hahahaha good luck with the hall table! Re: What to do with a large empty wall in our Illoura? 40Aug 11, 2010 7:02 pm Looks great, it must be wonderful not having kids that would constantly pull the cushions out I also agree that a picture or two would look good in the gap Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new.
