Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jun 13, 2010 9:54 am Hi there, we have installed new bifolds to our back yard and windows throughout the house but now it comes to painting the new render, I can't get excited about our colour choices! We have ended up with Colourbond Dune for the house walls and Urban Grey for the new yard wall. We tried Silkwort but it looked too grey. The backyard fencing is that dull green that just adds to the unispiring colour theme! Our house is currently an old style red bricksingle storey on an elevation so that the front is elevated with a big verandah and the back is on ground level. The back yard is being remodelled into a fab entertainment area with build in BBQ and travatine tiling, very modern and the whole house is being rendered so I really want something that will work and not be too dull, dull, dull! Has anyone got any inspiring colour choices with Woodland Grey? Cheers Gaby Re: What colours go with Woodland Grey?? 2Jun 13, 2010 10:18 am Hi Gaby...I'll leave the colour stuff to the experts, but re your dull fence: can you disguise it, or at least the parts that are visible from your entertainment area? We have Woodland Grey fencing, and the good thing about it is that it just disappears behind plantings. But where we don't have anything planted, or we wanted to make a feature of the area along the fence, we've used screens of various kinds. This is our main outdoor entertaining area, visible from all the living rooms (a combination of merbau and rendered blueboard): http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i18/kerrynw/IMG_6171_1_1.jpg This is a small feature area where I wanted the potted plant to stand out: http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i18/kerrynw/IMG_6196_4_1.jpg And this one is outside our formal lounge windows - the previous view was of the fence and the tops of the neighbours' windows: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Thick planting will work to make your fence fade into the background too. Re: What colours go with Woodland Grey?? 3Jun 13, 2010 6:28 pm Kek….your gardens are looking fantastic! Woodland Grey is a great colour as a complementary. You pretty much have a blank canvas if working with it. What colours do you like? First Kek, WOW what a great idea - I love the villa board and half screening. I think we could do something similar - we would need to extend our fence somehow as we are overlooked at the back and the side of the house and to add to this the fence currently follows the slope down at the back and the side of the house and with a new side deck it means the fence is even shorter there - will have to see if the neighbours would be the villa board as they would see it too - but I just love the look you have created. Michelle - I love colour but I cant get beyod the dull colours we have picked! Ahhh. Before we went for the woodland grey windows/doors, we had decided on blue or light greys but I dont think that goes any more wiht the brown/grey of woodland grey? I would love an Asian feel to the house/outdoors as we lived in Hk for years and have some nice Asian furntiure, and the planting would be quite easy to achieve but I dont know how to acheive this look in the outdoor colour scheme. We both like blues/greys, reds some blacks/some browns but I dont really like beige/fawns or greens for outside of the house. Any suggestions would be fab. Thanks again for your help Cheers Gaby Re: What colours go with Woodland Grey?? 5Jun 14, 2010 7:24 am Can I just check to make sure……are you wanting a render colour for the whole house, or just the outdoor area? At this stage we have just done the new back yard area and build a new modern retainng wall at the back so we need a colour scheme to include the house walls and back yard walls. Thanks for your help with this. Cheers Gaby X Re: What colours go with Woodland Grey?? 7Jun 14, 2010 8:21 pm I love colour in outdoor spaces, how would a red sound to you? This should give you a better idea of what we are working with? The grassy is being decked and seating is being built in the corner area and one area recessed into the wall, the other recess is for the bbq and sink unit. What do you think?? Thanks again so much for your interest in this project cheers Gaby X Re: What colours go with Woodland Grey?? 13Jun 15, 2010 6:44 am You have to resize all photos to about 600 Pixels for them to show up on the forum. Good job at getting the links! I have saved and resized them for you. I have to get ready for work, so I’ll have a look tonight for you. If you look at your second photo with the 2 colours already there, you can see how they blend with each other, not giving you a point of interest in the retaining walls. I’m still seeing a red on the retaining walls something like this?
