Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 May 23, 2010 11:33 pm I've been throwing around the idea of doing a feature wall in wallpaper for my main bedroom (behind the bedhead - the wall you look at as you walk in). I dont even have a slab yet so its a while off, but just putting together my plan now! But essentially, this is the only feature wall I plan on doing. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v709/wombat01/house.jpg I have my heart set on this wallpaper: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v709/wombat01/18169.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v709/wombat01/18169-1.jpg Peoples thoughts? My only concern is about making the room look and feel really dark. And any suggestions about a complimentary colour to paint the other walls. I would have thought a colour to go with it would be someting like A colour to go with it Hog Bristle (dulux) - i painted my walls 1/4 strength, but you could go half, or full - hold up samples to the wallpaper sample, it's the only way to really know - take it from me on that one!!! good luck! If you're worried about the depth of colour choose one of the lighter shades in the stripe for your other walls. Probably the lightest one. I imagine shiny accessories to make it a little less masculine. I have a brushed silver bedhead and mirrored lamps which would look spectacular with that paper. Very nice. Re: feature wall in wallpaper 5May 24, 2010 1:34 pm actually this is not a bad idea to ask photos of people who did feature walls in wallpaper - I'm thinking on the same lines so if you have some photos and the product details would be great. I'm still thinking if to get the paintable embossed one so I can use whatever colour to suite and not be restricted. http://www.crockerspaint.com/shop/produ ... apers.html Preliminary agreement 23/11 Contract 22/03 Prestart 06/04 - finalised on 30/04 Unconditional approval 10/05 Demolition 05/07 Slab 26/08 Brickwork 13/09-06/10 Roof frame started 07/10 viewtopic.php?f=31&t=32292 Re: feature wall in wallpaper 6May 24, 2010 2:53 pm mb@147a If you have your heart set on that one go for it! Being of the male species, I want all the masculine I can get! But don't worry, thats exactly what my gf said about "making it more girlie" - accessories..... But I love the wallpaper , so some questions….. 1)What flooring are you having, carpet or timber? 2)Are you thinking of a light neutral flow colour painted throughout the house? Since you are of the male species , I think the paper is perfect for you. But it’s how you decorate the rest of the room that will make it work. Yes Generally speaking my decorating is "minimalist". Any suggestions would be appreciated! Re: feature wall in wallpaper 11May 24, 2010 7:49 pm Since I don’t know what furniture you have, I’ll be brief at this point. Notice how the white works well with the paper? You can also use a very light shade of grey to complement the wallpaper. My thoughts would be – a metallic silver bedspread or doona cover, black cushion on the bed and black bedside lamps. The rest of the room needs to be light! Paint and carpet. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v709/wombat01/18169.jpg Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: feature wall in wallpaper 12May 24, 2010 8:27 pm Wow-a male who likes wallpaper! If light is important to you: Whether the room is dark will largely be dependant on the light coming in. What orientation are the windows? West facing? (i guess that because they have awnings). I see that the bedroom is open to the ensuite which looks to have a decent size window. But depending on your privacy, I'm not sure if this will be covered or what type of glass it will be. Do you know if much light will come in from the bathroom? It's hard to picture these things without knowing your site & surroundings (eg. There may be a high neighbouring wall 3 m from your bathroom window which would block a lot of available light. There's something to be said for a darker bedroom, anyway. It can be really dramatic. Don't know what colour your carpet is but I would pick out a light to mid grey for the walls & then contrast by having crisp, all white linen. Re: feature wall in wallpaper 20May 26, 2010 10:33 am Thanks xquisite. The house orientation (by sheer luck) is due north. The fence will be standard 1.8m high and the bathroom window will be standard opaque glass (well standard in WA). And I'm starting to think a dark bedroom wouldn't be too bad an idea. And depending on costs, I will be getting a wall mounted sliding door for the ensuite. hmmm id assume youll get hit with the "natural product therefore variation in colour etc" excuse. How bad are we talking? One could argue that if none of the displays or… 3 2458 Thank you again Simeon.. I will call my certifier for that.
