Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 May 16, 2010 8:21 pm I am struggling with part of our facade at the moment. Our facade was drawn to include timber slats above the portico but I am now unsure as to whether it actually suits our facade and the colours we have chosen. Our facade has quite a contrasting theme. Dark bricks, light garage door and window frames and light render (still to be decided) The render colour is still to be decided but will be light (possibly a little darker than the shale grey garage door it will surround.) Suggestions very welcome!!!! The first room to the left of the facade will be brick, the second part will be render, the portico will be brick and the garage will be render. Our facade- note the timber infills above portico Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ studiom mock-up (but with different brick! and without timber infill) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Our brick- Boral Domino Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ roof and gutters- woodland grey Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ garage door and fascia- shale grey Window frames will be Ultra silver gloss (a match to shale grey door) front door- hume xs24 So 2 main questions 1. Does the timber door and portico infills look out of place? Should I replace them with render and painted front door? 2. What colour render would look good with my colours (remembering I want to kkep it light) Thanks in advance!! We are wrapped and have windows!! Very exciting!!! Still would LOVE suggestions for render colour though!!! Michelle Edit- to add real life pic of facade.... might help to visualise..... Overall I think you have made really nice selections. Re: Help with Facade 5May 18, 2010 7:30 am Dollar Have you thought of a timber garage door? Overall I think you have made really nice selections. Thanks Dollar but am not a big fan of timber look garage doors, plus already locked in the shale grey one!! suh I think the bit of timber you are doing will break up the render and bricks nicely and be a great feature. Thanks Suh, I think it will look ok too. Especially once the timber is stained in a colour we like, not the colour in the above pic. Would still love some idea on render colour!! Am thinking something a little darker than the Shale Grey but not too dark. Still grey tones though???? Re: Help with Facade 8May 18, 2010 7:51 am I was going to say go darker than the Shale Grey, but you have dark roof and bricks so I think a light grey would be nice. Once you get some colourful plants in that will make a huge difference.....we have some spikey aubergine coloured plants that I love. Re: Help with Facade 9May 18, 2010 8:20 am Deewill- I am pretty sure it is square Can't remember!! Suh- Thanks- do you think lighter than shale grey will almost make it white though? Maybe too light? Shale Gray is light. Might go to bunnings today and get some colour swatches!! Or there is a grey colour called Heifer but I cant remember what paint brand... Re: Help with Facade 11May 18, 2010 10:54 am I would stick with the Shale grey at this point- it will help visually "lift"the portico even more giving it real presence. I think that a timber stain will be fine on your front door as it is set back slightly from the other colours in the facade and has it's own "ïdentity". Or there is a grey colour called Heifer but I cant remember what paint brand... Our house is mostly Dulux Heifer, and it looks almost white but because we have a Surfmist garage you can tell there is a difference. So get a Heifer sample and Shale Grey and go with the darkest of those two. I also have a section at the front painted Dulux Stepney, it's a really pretty grey, darker than these two but nowhere near as dark as your roof and bricks...now I've confused you Re: Help with Facade 13May 18, 2010 1:42 pm I must check out Dulux Heifer-we live in a dairy area! Shale grey will look fine. I have no idea what colour render but it seems some good advice is coming from people with already beautiful looking homes. The man in the paint shop suggested maybe double strength shale grey? Suh- would you mind showing me the colours on your house??
