See this pic...my window frame is right up against the door for the robe (no woman would design this, I am sure ), and at the other end there is plenty of room. SO>.... how do I hang a curtain rod here? Do I put it as far as I can towards the squishy end and then take it way past the other end so that when I pull the curtains back I could pull them both up that end? I would like to do the bamboo blind on the outside of the frame so I can put a roller blind inside the frame.(as seen on the blog cal told us about) I would then like the white sheer curtain over the top of the bamboo blind. I need the 3 because it faces full West and in Summer it's going to be really hot. It is a study. Maybe I will have to do without the curtain in this room? http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg89/leah6363/window009.jpg http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg89/leah6363/window010.jpg www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Ask your “Curtain Questions Here” 3May 14, 2010 8:07 pm I’ve got a reply to that one, but I’m going to wait for 4walls! Since children, I decided I did not want to go back to my previous profession, and wanted to start a business associated with my creative desires and passion for fabrics. A couple of years ago I was asked to make some curtains, which got the ball rolling onto window treatments with a professional approach and techniques. Afterwards I completed my Diploma where I achieved 99% of the marks. My children take up a lot of my time and this has meant that things have progressed slowly. After doing my back no good and the hassles of trying to make curtains on the floor I made my worktable - when I say a table it is a monster sized and sturdy enough for me to stand on! It is a work in progress fitting out my workroom with all the necessary supplies and equipment, but I am getting there. My aims are to create custom designs to embellish and enhance my clients homes, give them confidence to use colours and styles in a high quality treatment. This year I'm extending my knowledge with a design and colour course, whilst continuing to continue to learn for others in the profession. I may not have the answers to everything, however I always love a challenge and an opportunity to learn something new. Re: Ask your “Curtain Questions Here” 8May 17, 2010 11:27 am A couple of issues - the obvious one being the lack of stack back on the RHS, which makes it much tighter for 3 treatments, especially when it appears you have a small window recess to fit it all in. There is also a lack of space in front of the window as you do not want the treatment(s) protruding too far out, hampering the ability to open the door, as not only is the window close to the corner but also the door is butted up to the corner too. What are you trying to achieve from using two blinds that you can not with one? - as it is a study, rather than a bedroom, it is likely you do not require total block out of light, but rather to filter it? Are you wanting the sheer curtains as dress ones, or ones that you draw open and shut? Opening them to one side, looking at your pics I feel it could be unbalanced. As dress curtains you don't have to use as much fabric, but you don't want too go skimpy as that is not a good look. If you do choose a rod, try one that has no finials that has a sleek look and can be put right to the corner. You can help disguise the lack of space on the RHS by coming over the window more with a fabric that is more obscure hiding where the window frame starts, but still having balance on both sides. It is a study room and your photos suggest that you will have your back to this window most of the time, so maybe you should put more weight on practicality over the aesthetics (thus the blind for light/glare control). I would also love to hear Michelle view on it too Re: Ask your “Curtain Questions Here” 9May 17, 2010 1:04 pm Thanks 4walls. I appreciate the time and effort that you have put into that educated answer. I will take on board all your suggestions and let you know what I decide to do. Well done. I look forward to reading more of your posts and hopefully helping a few more people with their window dressing problems. I wish you luck with your further studies and I am sure that determination and passion will get you where you want to be. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Ask your “Curtain Questions Here” 10May 17, 2010 6:53 pm Nicely done 4walls and better put than I am about to say. Themax from me as shot and sweet, your brackets need to be as compact as possible, ie, not sticking out form the arcks very far. This will keep your sheers closer to the window and less intrusive to the door. As 4 walls said NO finials! But since it’s a study, I’d go without the sheers. And since the window gets the heat, I would think of something better than bamboo as window dressing. I appreciate your answer. I will add that to the other info from 4walls and think on it. I so wanted bamboos because this wondows faces the front of the house and I really wanted the blinds to look nice from the OUTSIDE as well. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Ask your “Curtain Questions Here” 13May 17, 2010 8:10 pm 4walls ooh you make me sound like I know what I am talking about Thank you for your kind words themax and Michelle, is a good feeling to get a confidence boost You’re very welcome! I think this looks nice and neat, a bit plantationey tropical and light, clean and smart. White Timber venetians. I hope they look ok from the outside (it was dark outside when we put them up tonight). I hadn't planned on white. They perfectly match my architrave colour though. They are a slightly warm white not bright white. http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg89/leah6363/DSCF0005-1.jpg www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Ask your “Curtain Questions Here” 17May 23, 2010 7:18 pm YES…..TM, excellent! Very nice indeed. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Ask your “Curtain Questions Here” 18May 23, 2010 7:23 pm Thanks girls. Glad you like them too. It's a huge thing, window dressings isn't it. It can make or break a room an dthe whole feel changes. We were so used to the silly Redishades (which did their job well I might add), but when the blinds went up the style that I wanted for the house appeared. I guess are sort the next best thing to Plantation shutters when there is no way in hell you can afford them www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Ask your “Curtain Questions Here” 19May 24, 2010 7:29 am I like the way you have softened the look with the large plant in the corner. Have you put the same in the study too? btw - do I see a loose cord on the blind (something red attached to it)? If you have children around that could be a potential choke hazzard. Re: Ask your “Curtain Questions Here” 20May 24, 2010 12:54 pm I really like the way your timber blinds look themax... it's a similar feel for what I'm going for (once the house is built of course), but I'm thinking of using off-white/warm-white roller blinds. I was just wondering how they go with keeping the heat in/out - I have a feeling that fabric drapes would be the best at doing this, but for a little bit of 'style' I'd be willing to sacrifice some heat loss... P. Ardo That is so funny! I wonder how many people know who Larry Haun is these days.
