Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge Re: Ask your “Curtain Questions Here” 167Aug 20, 2010 10:50 pm Hi Dollar, will try and take a photo of my colours and the fabric (they lent me the fabric book). I was quoted $140 a meter for the Kai Omara, and I have two windows, one is around 80cm and the other is around 3 meters long. I get palpitations just thinking about the price - $5334. but I really love the look. So, am hoping to cut down the cost through the other rooms. But as you say, I probably will not be able to pull off doing justice to the other windows, especially when the windows are all pretty close to 3 meters. Sigh, building a house has so many temptations and is so expensive. ..... Or maybe it's just me. Sigh, that's worse. Re: Ask your “Curtain Questions Here” 168Aug 21, 2010 10:24 am It is not really just about sewing a straight line, as the ability to have an eye for detail, scale & proportion, linings, interlining, precise measurements, hardware and fit. Not to mention being an expert on fabric and being able to avoid or overcome manys issues that may arise There are curtains and there are curtains - the ones I made over 10yrs ago (made with plenty of sewing experience) were ok but are nowhere near the standard of what I produce today with a workroom full of equipment, and a vast array of professional knowledge and experience gained. Having paying customers I need to know my stuff. You could make them, will they look good, will you be happy with them, that is up to you to decide. Do not underestimate how long it can take to make or how challenging it is to handle 3m length of fabric. If you are looking to cut cost then fabric has to be the obvious change - that is to say don't skimp on your first choice fabric, but rather choose a different fabric that is more in line with budget. Re: Ask your “Curtain Questions Here” 169Aug 21, 2010 12:47 pm Hi 4Walls, You are right. I guess I was hoping. Sorry, didn't mean to make little of your expertise. I guess I just want everything. I am going to have to take a deep breath and either take it or get over it. Anyway, took a photo of the feature wall in the room and the curtain. Not sure if it will come through in the photo. the paint is called Porters Sheer Allure, and the fabric is Kai - Omara Java silver Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Ask your “Curtain Questions Here” 170Aug 22, 2010 10:58 am short-stuff: I take absolutely no offence, so there's no need to apologise - Once upon a time I would have not thought a fraction of the complexities that can be faced to create a window treatment. It was not an area of sewing I originally thought I would get into, but once I did, I have been intrigued and wowed by the wonderful creations people at the top of their profession have done. This has inspired and given me such incentive to enter into this area. As for colour, that is a major part of a course I am currently doing so whilst I feel I am getting much more knowledgeable, I can easily say that Michelle is the expert Re: Ask your “Curtain Questions Here” 171Aug 22, 2010 1:00 pm Nice choice short stuff. It'll look really effective once you have them up. Our front two windows cost a fortune too as each window in width is about 3m wide so effectively you are paying for 2 window furnishings. Re: Ask your “Curtain Questions Here” 172Aug 24, 2010 8:36 am Help please. After being in the house a couple of months I find I need to do something about 3 rooms, 2x bedrooms and rumpus room. Fabric roller blinds were installed although I love them they appear unfinished and let too much light in when open. The rear neighbours have started to build so privacy has come in to it also. I have decided on a sheer fabric and pelmets but it is the length that is in question, the windows finish half way down the wall. Should the sheers finish at the architrave or go to the floor? Re: Ask your “Curtain Questions Here” 174Aug 24, 2010 10:11 am 4walls many thanks. I can now tell hubby I told you so Re: Ask your “Curtain Questions Here” 175Aug 24, 2010 10:39 am Hmm, I have similar windows to mdzzj in my minor bedrooms and have been mulling over window treatments. I decided that I will not go to the floor for practical reason, the use of the space under the window. There was a possibility that there would be a low boy or a desk or something there so I went with only window length. Thoughts? I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. I was told to finish at the acrhitraves would leave me where I am now, looking unfinished and that going to the floor will give the room a feeling of height. The bedrooms do not concern me as no furniture is under the window however there is in the rumpus room, I will post photos when installed. Re: Ask your “Curtain Questions Here” 177Aug 25, 2010 10:35 am Joles/mdjzz You could bring the furniture forward to allow floor length curtains to close behind it, especially if you are not closing them often. Also consider need for light control if window receives a lot of sun when the desk is being used. Alternatively a blind could be a solution, which you could add dress curtains to if you still wanted the look of curtains Re: Ask your “Curtain Questions Here” 178Aug 28, 2010 5:21 pm Hey, sorry to butt in with a new question, but I've seen some of these curtains in sort of posh or luxurious shops and they're more like...long, thin strips of sheer or lightly coloured (neutral) material hanging down...and it looks REALLY nice. It probably sounds terrible, LOL, but it looks great. I've got no idea what they're called and can't find 'em online...was just wondering if anyone knows about 'em? How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: Ask your “Curtain Questions Here” 179Aug 28, 2010 5:39 pm I know what you mean grace. I've seen that look too. Ardo That is so funny!
