Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 May 14, 2010 6:16 pm Just looking for a few opinions on window furnishings We purchased a home starter pack with our builder, which includes window furnishings to the living and bedroom windows, the choice either being slimline venetian blinds, or verticals. Originally we chose the slimlines, but we have sliding doors throughout the house, and would need to then furnish the doors. So now we've opted to have all windows and sliding doors in verticals, as i wanted them all to match, or more than likely it would have driven me crazy. Are verticals outdated? Dear J.K. Rowling, Your books are entirely unrealistic. I mean, a ginger kid with two friends? The remind me of the golden girls for some reason No offense to anyone with verticals Dear J.K. Rowling, Your books are entirely unrealistic. I mean, a ginger kid with two friends? I know that verticals are passe but as far as adjusting the light you can't go past them. They're just so much more adjustable than any other. I find roller shades day/night cold looking. I feel like I'm living in an unfinished house that the owners couldn't afford curtains. Venetians, what do you do to cover the sliding door? do you have 2 venetians 1 on one side of the door and one on the other? Do you then raise them completely everytime you want to go outside? That leaves us with the panel glides. I think they have a lot of merit adding character and functional but they don't allow you to completely have them open. Maybe the old fashioned sheers with curtains over the top isn't a bad option. I'm as stuck as anyone with choice and am seriously thinking of going with the old fashioned verticals for their full functionality. If anyone has better suggestions keep them coming. I've lived with verticals and for energy efficiency and class, I've chosen to spend on curtains (though cheaper than double roller blinds) After 4 years - we're in! Re: Are verticals daggy and outdated? 14May 14, 2010 7:56 pm I’m not a huge fan of verticals…..BUT, with some doors….large roller doors, I see them as a good option. That's were verticals and venetians were wonderful. I'm married to an old fashioned DH and he wants verticals for the sliding doors (we have 4 of them in our plan). They're good for controlling light but I agree with Hels. Reminds me of drs waiting room. Sounds like even though we've come so far with design we're still limited in other areas. My sister has plantation shutters everywhere and it's amazing how much light it cuts out. I think I'd still like them for my lounge room. I want the MAGIC BULLET Handover February 2011 Happy with our home Re: Are verticals daggy and outdated? 19May 14, 2010 8:20 pm Oh Michelle, If I have to have verticals the Luminetts are it. It's like having the two rollerblinds without the sterile unfinished look. I'll be checking them out. Thank you. I wasn't happy about going plain old verticals. They remind me of an office or doctors waiting room Your so right. They are probably used more for the economical status, it certainly isn't for their beauty. What other options would be available to use on sliding doors? Panel glides look a little like verticals on steroids. I grew up with the standard curtains and drapes on our windows, and up until now, have just carried on the tradition, until now That's the dilemma we had too, the Venetians would have been on the windows in our living areas (eventually being replaced with timber Venetians) but in the same open plan area, we have the sliding door. I need something that is practical, but not outdated, and works for both windows and sliding doors. Dear J.K. Rowling, Your books are entirely unrealistic. I mean, a ginger kid with two friends?
