Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 May 07, 2010 9:10 pm We have been renovating a 1980's home, we have not long ago put a new wall near the front door to create a entry room. In doing so we also put a nook (not sure what my husband calls it - the technical term) where we installed a downlight and my husband made a table out of blackbutt to fit in. Our problem is the new wall I want to buy or make some artwork for it but not sure what to get, so need some help.... can anyone make some suggestions??? I have been on the search since january! We have painted the room in duluxs quarter hogs bristle, but its not dark enough for the amount of light that comes through the glass windows so we are going to re-paint it hogs bristle half strength. we will also have a light beige coloured tiles on the floor and all white gloss trims. Sorry the pictures are taken at night so the colour is not very strong at all! Re: Help! need help with our entrance 2May 08, 2010 12:48 pm Niche is the work you're looking for.... I can't help with artwork, but your husband has done a fabulous job on the table! Re: Help! need help with our entrance 4May 08, 2010 8:00 pm Oh I get it now you meant 'word' niche for that nook arae thingy- yeah my husband calls it something else still ....... will have to ask him what he calls it Anyone got any ideas for that wall in regards to artwork PLEASE:( Any help would be much appreciated Re: Help! need help with our entrance 5May 09, 2010 8:15 am LOC, first suggestion……if your ¼ hog is not dark enough and you have lots of natural lighting, re-paint it FULL Hog Bristle. I need to know what style of home you have, or what style do you like? Country, modern, eclectic…… it helps to know something like that so I know which direction to look for your artwork. Second…. “Niche” is the name for the NOOK in your wall . Whoops, see you have got that…… Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Help! need help with our entrance 6May 09, 2010 6:25 pm Modern is my style. Michelle: we are most likely going to re-paint it in either half or full strength hogs bristle. Umm... currently have done two rooms up in the house one is a pale green with all white furniture for a kids room. The other is a pale yellow colour with a black leather lounge(pulls out to double bed), black and white flocking cushions and I did a big canvas with the same fabric from the cushions is like our second tv room. The rest of the house is going to be in hogs bristle, except maybe our bedroom. Unless I change my mind when we knock out the garage to extend the lounge room and then I might go more dramatic. Hope this is helpful. Re: Help! need help with our entrance 7May 09, 2010 7:25 pm What's going on the floor? The vase on the table looks a bit lonely. If that was my place I'd put a feature colour inside the nook and get hubby to add some drawers to the table. That would test out his cabinet making skills Re: Help! need help with our entrance 8May 10, 2010 9:27 pm The vase is just there for the moment its something I had in the cupboard. We have already discussed putting a draw in it before we made it but decided not to - its already been clear glossed with something and the timber alone for just what you see was over $300. The walls look really light in the photo, but they are a light biege colour quarter strength hogs bristle, which we art going to go over with fullstrength hogs bristle which will make it alot lighter. I have been thinking of putting a mirror in that niche and some coloured items that tie in with the art on the timber stand once we work out what art to put on the other wall. The floor is going to have medium sized square biege or white tiles. I guess what I am trying to say is everything depends on what artwork I put on the big empty blank wall. I am starting to think we might have to bite the bullet and buy some of the expensive art work we have seen. Has anyone recently brought or made any art work for their home? Re: Help! need help with our entrance 9May 10, 2010 9:43 pm See if you can find some fabric that you like and ties in with your colour scheme then buy a cheap canvas the right size and cover it-worked for me last time! Know of any good websites that sell reasonbly cheap fabric? I brought a beautiful one for the study/lounge room from spotlight wwhite with the black flocking print - beautiful was $40 a metre but well worth it! I am not sure if you know, but i make Fabric Art and just love it. I am now actually calling myself a 'Fabric Addict' and this all started 3 years ago from wanting something nice to put in my new home. I will put a few pictures on here of some Fabric that you might like, one is Teal and the other has a multi coloured effect with purple being one of the colours. If you could get a straight on view of the wall i can photo edit the fabric on to it to show you what it would look like. ( i do realize that is hard in an entrance) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I hope this helps you Re: Help! need help with our entrance 16May 11, 2010 8:40 pm The mirror looks fabulous. You can put something decorative in the front of the mirror on the shelf if you like. On the facing wall ,have you thought about a wall of family pictures, or beautifull holiday pictures in frames the same colour but different style/ sizes. Good conversation point and cheap to do Re: Help! need help with our entrance 19May 12, 2010 6:26 am I like the idea of the mirror also, I’d like to see open shelving under the little table not draws; draws don’t seem to suit the space. I actually love the vase of flowers you have there. If you get the mirror, buy yourself a larger ornate vase set it to one side and complement it with some nice sliver frames. I want a whole wall done in a mirror and the other half gives me a very strange look. Ha ha - Dollar. Mine did the same. I had a very dark hallway and stuck a mirror on the whole wall to lighten it up. The light now just keeps bouncing back at me which I love. Saying that I have had someone walk into it thinking that the hallway continued. I dont get it, why did you walk into yourself?...... well THE LIGHT OF MY LIFE IS 495 SQM OF BEACH SAND AND WEEDS! http://missvintageshouseofpain.blogspot.com/ The warning is on the sticker on the door too.
