Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 May 02, 2010 11:53 am Hi there We are going to have polished jarrah timber floorboards on the ground floor of our home we are currently building. To minimise the 'darkness' of the floor I would like to paint the internal side of the bi part sliding door (vivid white) and on the external side stain it the colour of the flooring in the Alfressco. Has any one done something similar...or do you think it will look odd?? Your honesty would be greatly appreciated!! Here's a photo of what it looks like now...it will give you an idea (although the doors haven't been put in yet!!) http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/6278/backdoor.jpg Thanks Re: Paint one side of sliding door and stain the other 2May 02, 2010 12:04 pm Yes, that’s fine; we do it all the time! We had wooden floors inside & also stained timber joinery, then the outside windows/doors were painted. As Mish pointed out, it's done all the time Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade Re: Paint one side of sliding door and stain the other 4May 02, 2010 3:36 pm Thanks for the welcome and your replies!! With a sliding door....how do you work out if you paint or stain the vertical strip that goes into the wall and is close to the handle/lock (I'm not sure if I explained that well!!)....may be it's just called the edge of the door!!!! I guess doing it half and half would look wierd. Which one wins!! the vivid white or the dark oak stain?? I appreciate your help...thanks!!! Michelle Re: Paint one side of sliding door and stain the other 5Apr 09, 2012 12:17 pm Does anyone have any pictures they can post of sliding doors stained ones side and painted the other. Also the frame, and if you have two tracks (with fly screen sliders for example) that would be even better. We are in the process of trying to work out which parts to stain and which to paint. Thanks. Re: Paint one side of sliding door and stain the other 6Apr 09, 2012 4:43 pm I've done this a few time over the years, what I would suggest is painting just the internal face of the door, generally when you are out in your alfresco area you have your doors open, so when you see them from the outside all you see is the timber, does that make sense? But it can be a case of "six of one, half a dozen of the other" but personally I would leave the edge as timber. Re: Paint one side of sliding door and stain the other 7Apr 11, 2012 4:33 pm I would probably just leave the edge as timber, although I have seen a fantastic door where the exterior was black, the interior was white and they painted the edge in bright red.
