Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Apr 24, 2010 5:12 pm Am just after a few comments on our floors..... We have selected Amtico rustic smoked wood vinyl planks which I do love but I am getting varying opinions on them.... most like them but whenever someone sees them on my floor (where we are living atm) I am getting told they are dark. Have taken a few pics today with the flash off so I can get some opinions. I do plan on doing a white kitchen with darker splash and keeping the walls quite white also. Close up of floor With our bathroom tile and carpets which will be in the bedroom Against one of our lounges (this lounge will be on the carpet in kids room) Against our lounge which will be on the vinyl floor in the rumpus... will need a contrasting rug to add a bit of light colour in this room. Let me know what you think Michelle Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=32574 Re: Help me decide on my floors please!!! 2Apr 24, 2010 6:53 pm i like the theme, natural. but yes its darker and you will need to lighten it up with color somehow VICTORY 1800, EN-SUITE, DOUBLE GARAGE, FAMILY ROOM AND ALFRESCO Land Settled: 20 July 2010 Site Scrap: 30 August 2010 Slab Pour: 20 September 2010 Frame Complete: 23 September 2010 Fascia and Gutters: 28 September 2010 Roof Complete: 06 October 2010 Lock-up complete: 28 October 2010 Plaster complete: 29 October 2010 Fix-out complete: 22 Nov 2010 PCI 7 FEBRUARY 2011 Re: Help me decide on my floors please!!! 3Apr 24, 2010 6:57 pm To be honest, not what I would choose for me ....but with your colours - I think it looks great, especially with your white light kitchen, and light walls. The carpet works with it. What's your initial thoughts..no one seems to like my current bathroom colours but I still love it! Sometimes our gut feeling is more important than people's opinions... I used to not like dark floors but the house came with polished jarrah floors and now i love them. We just went with lighter walls and furniture. I'm doing a new reno downstairs and we are thinking of going with the vinyl planks. How have you found them to wear and are you putting them in yourself? Re: Help me decide on my floors please!!! 5Apr 24, 2010 7:20 pm Thanks for your honest opinions..... I decided to go the vinyl floor after seeing my SIL's (different colour- more natural looking) not because I want to imitate timber but because they looked like they would be fairly easy to keep looking clean and with young kids who are always spilling stuff (even water marks tiled floors!) I thought they would be more practical than tiles and I wouldn't have to mop them every day! The colour was chosen because I want to go for the grey/brown tones..... it would be so much easier for me to pick a tile colour but I just don't want to be a slave to them! or do I? I also don't want the floors to look "cheap". I'm doing a new reno downstairs and we are thinking of going with the vinyl planks. How have you found them to wear and are you putting them in yourself? Only prob is that we already have dark furniture but we do need a new sofa which I will keep light and will get a rug for the rumpus also. We aren't putting the floors down ourselves but I have heard nothing but excellent reports as to how they wear and this is exactly the reason for choosing this type of flooring (3 young kids) Search "Karndean" or "Amtico" (apparently two most recommended vinyl) within this forum or google and it should answer a few q's for you. Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=32574 Re: Help me decide on my floors please!!! 8Apr 25, 2010 2:02 am I love the colour of those floors!!! And I think the way you can lighten things up on your sofas is with lighter colour cushions and white/light ornaments and even lighter rugs. At the moment we have dark brown plush carpet in our lounge with black/brown furniture and 2xbrown feature walls... the other walls are lighter coloured green tinge but I have gone for chrome and white ornaments to lighten things up and in the new house we have gone for near black floor boards (we're after grey/black and white colour tones) and we'll be having light walls and light rugs! People say that dark floors show everything up like dark cars! I have had light grey carpet and floor tiles and they have shown up the same amount if not more dirt than the dark floors we have now - I have had a white car and now a black car... again they both look dirty when they are dirty (surprise, surprise!!!!) Either way we're gonna have to clean the floors eventually... I say pick the colour you can live with for a long time... you don't want to be changing them in a couple of years!!! I do love the floors too but I am second guessing everything and really don't want to be doing anything TOO different. I don't want the floors to be a love/hate topic of conversation for people. I would like them to blend in without making too much of a statement IYKIWM. We also have darkish floorboards and furniture, in process of looking for a lighter rug and cushions etc. like mentioned above. Good luck! Re: Help me decide on my floors please!!! 11Apr 26, 2010 8:27 am Amtico……good quality vinyl there! I don’t mind the colour and plank. But too me its more of a county plank and colour, your home with what I can tell, looks to be more modern? So to me should have a more stream lined plank. JUST my opinion….. if you like it, that’s all that counts!!!! It will look warm and inviting and will balance out a white colour scheme. To make sure, pic up some home design mags/books and find a picture of a room/home you love and model your big element choices on that. You can't go wrong then as you're getting a complete look rather than picking bits and pieces here and there. I'm about to make a final decision with flooring and have gone for a stone white on walls, ceilings, trims and like Karndean's "auckland oak" in the Van Gogh range which we're putting throughout the house about from bathrooms and laundry. Michelle, do you also think that "Auckland oak" is more rustic/country style? I originally wanted American Oak floors (pictured in my blog re flooring http://homewithcoco.blogspot.com) until I found out those were $220 per sq metre! I'd say my style is more classic rather than up to the minute contemporary. I'm going for a minimal gallery look in the living areas to show off our small but growing art collection and family photos etc. I wish I'd had another year to research and learn more about design before plunging in with a new build! Good luck! coco ______________________________ http://homewithcoco.blogspot.com Re: Help me decide on my floors please!!! 13May 17, 2010 6:45 pm cocobeanhouse Love the flooring you've chose. Horrible stuff - looks very cheap and nasty. Cleans well though and we have had since moving in ages ago. It will be replaced with proper wood if we ever get around to doing a proper renovation. I thought this would be a popular question but I haven't been able to find any similar posts. Perhaps I'm wording my searches wrong?
