Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Apr 16, 2010 4:26 pm Hi all, So while at Ikea on the weekend i saw a great chest of drawers which had a glass top and thought to myself that would work well in the living room with the TV on top, give me the extra storage i need and tie in with the drawers on the other side of the island bench. Then i stopped and thought no it will look stupid, people will think ive gone crazy using a chest of drawers as a tv cabinet. So i thought i would ask the H1'ers for there opinion and see if anyone else here had done anything similar and found a piece of furntiure really useful but not for what is was actually built for? I hope im making some sense here. This is a pic of the item im talking about: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ V Re: Furniture can it be used for something it wasnt made for 2Apr 16, 2010 4:42 pm I've seen these at Ikea and they look great. You can use your furniture for what ever you like. I say go for it! I haven't as yet found a small high lamp table I like to go in its place. Re: Furniture can it be used for something it wasnt made for 4Apr 16, 2010 6:35 pm why not? I can think of one - can the unit take the weight of the TV? if it can, there are plenty of built in units (for lounge/family rms) that have that look, although usually 1 or 2 drawers height. which brings me to another reason not to - will it be too high especially if you are sitting lower in a sofa (maybe get a bit of neck ache!) Re: Furniture can it be used for something it wasnt made for 5Apr 16, 2010 6:41 pm and plenty of units that have cupboards that would be 3 drawers high. It should be fine provided it can take your tv weight. Its really well priced as well and i think it will be perfect for the area i want it in. I dont think the tv will be to high because if i was to mount the tv on the wall it would be at a similar height. Might have to take some measurements make sure it will fit and go and grab it!! Thanks for all the replies. That’s as good a reason as any to get it to me!! Who cares what it’s made for, as long as it does the job. I like it, it looks good, to me it’s a great idea for a unit…..the draws are perfect!
