Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Apr 10, 2010 7:07 pm Hi all, Had my colour selections on Wednesday and have been second-guessing it ever since which I knew I would. I wanted to go for a greyey-brown pretty nuetral colour scheme, and this is what the colour consultant come up with. I would really love to hear others thoughts because I can't stop thinking I may have got it wrong?? The kitchen will have Polytec Concrete benchtops, Laminex white cupboards, and Laminex New Graphite overhead cupboards. The big white tile is for the kitchen splashback. Am not sure I really want dark overhead cupboards so thinking about keeping these white and having a darker splash. The bathroom vanity will be in Laminex white with Laminex Platinum Micro tops, the floor tile featured below on floors, with white smaller tile around bath and in shower. Are these colours too boring? The feature tile (really unsure about) will be in the shower niche and one row up the side of the bath hob and running up the wall behine. We also have two directly above the bathroom vanity sink in the middle as a feature. Ensuite will be the same. I am worried I will look at this tile in 5 years and think "what were we thinking!!!?" Also am worried it is too much?? Finally our paint colours are Dulux beige Royal Half for walls and quater for trims. I am not a fan of feature tiles as in my opinion they do date. The other tiles are fine and I would delete the feature tile. You can dress up your bathroom with your towels and accessories. I assume your toilet and bath and basins are white? Your bathroom tile looks like a beige in the photo. You could go for a deeper coloured bench top, to add some colour, if you decide to delete the feature tile. I agree about the kitchen. I personally would delete the different colour for the overheads and go with a striking colour for the splashback. Are you allowed to have a glass splashback? If not, a tile in a deepish shade would look nice. Have a look at some of the metallic ones. Again you can add colour with your accessories and decor items. I like your carpet and vinyl. Beige royal is a great colour. Easy to work with. You could use Dulux "Harold" as a feature wall - it appears to go nicely with your floor coverings. Building in Bella Vista Waters Sydney. Because you are totally right about turning around in a few years and thinking "what were we thinking!". I only say this because I have done that! We are about to start building house no. 4 and I am still as nervous as you with picking colours. Each house of ours has been different, and this time we're going with a neutral type theme too, because exactly like kerrin62 said, you can accessorise and add colour and interest with towels, etc. We're thinking of the 2 colours in the kitchen too, but if I do it we'll do the lighter colour on top with the darker colour below. And our carpet looks exactly the same as yours. And we're having a timber vinyl plank too but a bit lighter. So I really like your selections, but being honest I'm just not sure on the bathroom feature tile. Good luck! Re: Help with Interior colour selections please!! 4Apr 11, 2010 9:54 am Thanks so much girls, You have answered what I knew deep down was the wrong decision- the feature tile!! Kerrin, do you think maybe I could still use a dark grey/brown tile in the niche and maybe something more subtle behind the basins? Might even go for a deeper top like you said and kaap the tile behind the basin light. My bathroom tile is a beigey colour, I actually wouldn't mind the floor tile being a bit darker also. Trouble is, all my colour selections were based around the 2 laminate kitchen colours and now that I am taking out teh New Graphite I may have more options? I am allowed to have a glass splashback but I am not too keen on spending $5k (or more) on it!! But I still want it too look awesome but for just a bit cheaper. When you say Metallic tile, would you say the bathroom feature tile is metallic? Thanks for the tip for the feature wall too!! You have helped me so much Hazmat- thanks for your comments, do you think my vinyl timber plank is too dark, unnatural looking? As I mentioned everything was chosed after picking the laminate colours and if I elimanate the dark one maybe my floors are too dark.... what do you think? Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=32574 Re: Help with Interior colour selections please!! 5Apr 11, 2010 10:19 am Bathrooms - I have a choc brown travertine look porcelain tile on the floor and on one wall and a pale beige version of the same tile on the other 3 walls. I dont like a feature tile at all so I dont have any. If you have 2 different colour tiles this will be enough contrast in the bathroom. Your feature tile is not metallic as far as I can see from the photo. Go to a tile shop and have a look around and you will see metallic wall tiles I have seen a house which had a silver shiny metallic tile splashback and this looked great but it would not be for everyone. I can see a bronzey - brown dullish metallic splashback tile for your kitchen. found this on google http://www.zenithtiles.co.uk/galleria/i ... _metal.jpg Or if you are worried about the metallic dating on the splashback, you could go for a lovely deep latte tile which blends in with your other colours. What is travertine look porcelain? Don't think the Metallic look is for me.... am definately worried about dating. Wouldn't a deep latte be too brown and move away from the more grey coloured scheme I was hoping for? The grey in the Laminex New Graphite is more the colour tones I am thinking of going for. All I can say is, if your already feeling like you need help with a colour consultant, then get one. She/he will put your mind at rest with your selections or change some other selections to better suite. Either way, it’s worth paying for a professional to sort your colours, and then you get to sleep at night. Kitchen am still tossing up whether to have two tone or not and am now thinking of possibly introducing vinyl gloss. Basicallly I am questioning everything! Your opinion would still be much appreciated and then I might walk through some kitchen displays this week! NOW your vinyl floor, I’ve never been too partial to that one, it’s too patterned if you know what I mean, and doesn’t look real, I know its not meant to be but some do and some don’t. I think you need to rethink the vinyl but keep the carpet. Michelle, that is why I am so unsure of all my selections. I want to go for grey-brown tones if that makes sense?? When I met with the colour consultant at Beaumont tiles she asked me what colour scheme I wanted to go for.... I told her greyey brown tones, and that I don't want to go for brown alone because I know it is going out. She then proceeded to pick up lamiante chips that had grey brown tones which is how we chose the ones I have chosen, then we chose vinyl floors to go with this and then the floor tile and then the carpet and paint, she just showed me which piece she thought and I agreed and trusted she knew what she was talking about. The bathroom feature tile was something she showed me which she thought would go well in the shower niche after I said I wanted something in there. I must admit I was really unsure when she chose it.... I did like the tile but didn't really think about the fact it didn't match, just trusted that she wouldn't suggest it if she didn't think it would go with the rest. I am a very indecisive person so basically just followed her lead and trusted that she would come up with something good. I have been questioning every decision since last wednesday including the feature tile. BTW- I have already decided not to use this feature tile! So any advice what I could use instead would be much appreciated Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=32574 Re: Help with Interior colour selections please!! 16Apr 12, 2010 12:30 pm I love the tile….it would make a fantastic kitchen splash back!!! BUT, in your bathroom its too dominate with the other selections; it will be the first thing you see when you walk into the room. To me….way off the mark in choices. Good move not to use it in the bathroom. All you’re other selections look fine….just not the vynil and feature tile. These are the things you need to rethink. To me it looks brown but I haven't brought a sample home so I can't check it against my photos. Also, would you go for a lighter/whiter kitchen or keep the dark overhead cupboards? Have you seen the Polytec concrete on a benchtop in real life? Am not sure what it will look like on a whole bench. OR pay a colour consultant to worry about it all for you. It will be the best money you spend!! NOT ME (colour consultant).....I'm done for a while.
