One must have in the laundry, that so many people forget about is an extra "noggin", horizontal stud if you like. so that when the plastering is completed you have somewhere to hang your dryer from when you use the wall mounting feature.... Another favourite of mine, is a stainless steel trough, not a plastic one, with a high necked spout.......plenty of storage for cleaning products.... Re: Your new Laundry 3Sep 11, 2007 2:50 pm Overhead cupboards, to store all those cleaning products etc..that little people shouldn't be able to reach.
We also went for a stainless trough. I would have loved a bench along the length of one wall so I could put a front loader and dryer under it and still have usable space above. Re: Your new Laundry 5Sep 11, 2007 3:01 pm The noggins are a must. Hte cupboards can be priced. I know bunnings have single door broom cupboards for about $100 or so (last time I checked) so it mighe be worth looking at those. Adrian B Re: Your new Laundry 6Sep 11, 2007 3:14 pm We recently fitted out or laundry and explored various options.
I would steer clear of Bunnings flat pack stuff and go and see a cabinet maker. For the sake of a few hundred dollars it's better to get what you want rather than compromise. Flat pack stuff generally only comes in particular widths. This may not fit in with the dimensions of your room. Cabinet maker will make to suit. Then you have to get a bench top made to suit. And unless you only have a straight bench, you will need some expert input. Flat pack benchtops are only straight and I doubt many people can cut a top down to suit and not completely ruin the laminex on the edge. We put in a double door full length cupboard with adjustable shelving. One side for brooms etc, the other side for linen. Stainless sink, swivelling tap, overhead and under bench cupboards. It's not that hard to design if you have a think about it. I'll take some pics and post them up if anyone is interested. We had the stainless trough in-built into the benchtop. We had our dryer in the garage so as not to steam up the house. The broom cupboard definitely. We also had a dirty linen draw which was approx 600mm deep x approx. 700mm wide. I loved it because i didn't have baskets of clothes around or piles of clothes on the floor! (Great hiding spot in other words). Plenty of light is a great idea too. Re: Your new Laundry 11Sep 13, 2007 6:53 pm I would dearly love a laundry large enough to be able sew in, with a long bench, for my sewing and over locking machines. Fully set up with a hide away ironing cabinet!
Yep that would be my heaven! Plus my man to do the ironing! I prefer to iron in front of the tv, or put on a great dvd. Alternatively i could set up a tv in the laundry- bit extreme though..... Re: Your new Laundry 13Sep 13, 2007 8:04 pm NEVER!
It’s never extreme if it makes the job easier and more pleasant **Phoenix**! Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Your new Laundry 14Sep 13, 2007 8:13 pm Hi
We have just finished building recently and forgot this one. A drain in the laundry floor just in case of any tub or washing machine floods. I did this twice in our old house and hopefully don't ever wish I had put one in the new house Adrian, did the extra noggin in the laundry and was very handy for mounting the dryer. Will make my own overhead cupboards some time down the track. Re: Your new Laundry 15Sep 13, 2007 8:23 pm uncle_ant….I could not imagine anyone who would not put a drain in a wet area.
Do they actually build new houses like that now? To be honest I haven’t notice! Not having a drain in any wet area makes for major problems. I must take more notice next time I’m onsite! I have a better solution - don't buy clothes that need ironing!
Michelle, I would love to have my sewing machine set up somewhere. I'm sure I would do a lot more sewing if I didn't have to lug it out of the cupboard and set it up each time[/quote] Re: Your new Laundry 17Sep 13, 2007 8:33 pm penjay …..Mine are set up in my office…..not a bad spot.
But not as good as I would like it in a laundry! Apparently I know how to sew….so my daughter keeps reminding me when she drops her cloths in to be repaired....often!
