Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Apr 03, 2010 12:43 am We are laying new floor and painting our apartment in a couple of weeks. I am totally stressed because we cant agree on a color. Because we are also replacing the window treatments and are more than likely painting the dark existing furniture a high gloss white these things aren't necessarily important for consideration. The couch will also go but we will probably get another chocolate brown leather one because my mother thinks its impractical to have a light colored couch.
The floors that we are laying are the African Cherry timber impression laminate flooring from Harvey Norman. They have quite a strong orange tone. I would like a very light pale sage/olive green or alternatively a beige (not cream!) and my mother wanted a white with green undertones (like Spring Quarter) which i think looks sallow. We had a decorator come in who suggested one of the dulux whites (I think she suggested natural white with vivid white woodwork). The painters who have come through have also suggested various versions of antique white US/ whisper white etc. I think their reasoning is that it will open up the rooms, and will allow the floor will become the focal point because of its strong color. But I am concerned that the walls will be boring and look like we are renting the apartment. I would like to tone down the orange tone of the floor a little and bring some warmth and sophistication to the room. Can anyone please help??? I have bought 8 different sample pots and we still cant agree. I feel like we will end up picking white because we will run out of time not because we like it. Please ignore the incredible mess. As you can see we are in the middle of packing before the painters and floor people come. These rooms predominantly get light in the afternoon.
Here is a photo of the floorboards (against the existing gross carpet) http://www.flickr.com/photos/14941046@N06/4485552549/ here is the dining room, which only has the small window that you see http://www.flickr.com/photos/14941046@N06/4485552493/ My inspiration for the green comes from these photos: http://www.flickr.com/photos/14941046@N06/4486205814/ (but much paler) http://www.flickr.com/photos/14941046@N06/4485552645/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/14941046@N06/4486203472/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/14941046@N06/4486203442/ Keep in mind that we are getting a new couch (probably brown again) and new curtain/blinds. The sideboard and bookshelves may be painted white. See I told you it was a lot of photos Re: Totally stressed about interior paint colors! 4Apr 06, 2010 6:52 am I agree with both your thoughts of green, yours and your mums! So my suggestion is this, a slight green throughout with one major feature wall a few shades darker than the chosen flow green. And since I’m still having problems with the Dulux Website I will tell you colours and you need to go find them on their site. My suggestion for your flow green is Dulux Ghostly Green ½ or full strength. Feature colour Dulux Stilted Stalks You need to go to the Dulux site http://www.dulux.com.au/specifier/colou ... atlas.aspx Then look for the page P17, then look 5 rows over and you will see the colour I have selected. I have them here in my fan deck, they are gorgeous greens!
