Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Apr 01, 2010 6:52 am for your new house? Did you pretty much keep everything the same and go with the furniture you had, go a whole new style and theme or just add pieces to your existing furniture? We have tried to keep the colours in our new house neutral enough that our current furniture will work, but the house we're building is way bigger than our current one so we will be getting some new furniture. New TV (keeping our old one...a big tube one but hubby is getting his dream TV aswell whatever that is) New lounge suite, maybe some sort of TV unit or buffet (depending on what happens with the TV) and rug for family room New fridge (ours is at least 30 years old) Armchair, lamp, side table and ottoman for my reading room (sigh, so excited) couple of armchairs for formal lounge (have a couch to go in there already) maybe a new desk and chair for study then some new manchester for all of us, I'm going to do some canvases and some other bits and bobs. We're going to try and save the money over this year to do that so hopefully it all works out. Re: How much new furniture/miscellaneous items did you buy 2Apr 01, 2010 7:05 am reading room???? can i come live at your house??? we need a fair few new things, but mainly cos our furniture is all mis-matched now. BUT we cant afford it anytime soon and the yard and driveway need to take priority over the furnitre So we are just getting the essentials on moving: *new single beds for kids (they've finally outgrown the toddler beds!!) *chest of drawers for Coleman (poor kid has never had his own room before!) *dishwasher (I'm not going back to washing dishes by hand) Caz & Co ALL MOVED IN!! Now comes all the hard work-decorating.... Some tables for the office, a couch to replace one we'd left behind. Replacement bookcases plus extra ones, replaced our kids beds ( didn't have to but we wanted to buy them King single ones). Their old beds we've kept for the guest room which in our old house was an office. We also replaced a filing cabinet we left behind and added a 2nd one. So for us mostly it was replacing furniture that was at the end of life and that we'd had to offload before moving to the rental rather than buying furniture just because we wanted new things. I would however like to buy a new dining table and chairs to replace our old one as I'm over the entire colonial style furniture look. No $ to do so yet. Re: How much new furniture/miscellaneous items did you buy 5Apr 01, 2010 1:48 pm Same as Caz.... we're making do with a lot of things, but moving from a house a third the size of this one, we had to get a few pieces. Our two youngest shared a room before, so new bedroom furniture for them, plus a couch for the retreat and desk and shelves for the study. Other than that, we've only picked up a hall table and my gym and office equipment. Oh, and a lot of towels, bedlinen, dishes, and decorative bits and pieces. Our funds have been allocated to finishing off the house, so floor and window coverings, landscaping etc have taken priority. Much as I'd love to just go out and buy a new bedroom suite and lounge and dining furniture, I'm firmly resisting buying anything on credit; instead we'll just do a room at a time as spare cash is available. You might be able to renovate some old stuff so it works with the new colour scheme - I fixed up our outdoor furniture and bedside tables and they came up well. eBay is good for cheap finds too, as long as you can restrain yourself from bidding too high. Re: How much new furniture/miscellaneous items did you buy 6Apr 01, 2010 1:58 pm We've kinda done the opposite... we've gone from a gigantic house to a much smaller one!! So my place is feeling kinda crowded... am hoping to buy some new furniture though viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22766 - my build thread! Time waits for no man. Unless that man is Chuck Norris. Re: How much new furniture/miscellaneous items did you buy 7Apr 01, 2010 2:09 pm I'm going from a 3x3m bedroom at my parents house and Sarah is going from a 2.5x4m bungalow to a 41sq house. This is our first house so we need to buy everything from scratch. We started saving a while back and we've been buying things along the way. By the time the house is finished we should just about have all the major furniture items. Shopping for a whole house takes so long! I cannot WAIT to have my reading room. It was either go the and use the formal dining as my reading room, or go the and kit out the Butlers Pantry...and then I realised I don't really like to cook but I loved to read so it was a no-brainer. There's no door so I'm going to get a privacy screen and a 'do not disturb' sign lol. I have a headache thinking about the choosing for everything...makes me sleepy lol The best advice is for you to get a competent building consultant to guide you through your build 7 4675 The significant date is when receive final payment invoice Check that section of contract Bit of fluff by builders prior to that 1 15937 Looking at some of the designs on websites, they are all selling very similar products.
