Hi donuts
Well, I'm not sure....it's a hard gloss spray paint (probably 2 pac or similar) finish over something with the texture of well done fibrous meringue. as I only found out when i had to drill through it to install some Ikea lights.
Expensive? about $4k for the wall unit and about $600 for the glass shelved wall panel. Which is expensive for the Chinese junk it really is. However, it does the job, is well-finished and engineered and is about a quarter of the price of the German equivalent we liked only very slightly better. Also, the prices included delivery and installation.
Also, we were told the Germans had only just added the beige colour to their range, which we thought was a good sign.
Anyway, we're happy with both units as the bigger wall unit gives somewhere to store CD's DVD's and a lot of other junk out of sight and the wall panel with beige glass shelves is a neat way to display bar glasses etc.
We tend to mix old and new furniture at random, but had the same dilemma as you in having medium coloured timber to blend in with. Also, the kitchen at the other end of the room

and 2 sets of glass doors with oversized architraves at each end of the room

are in dark timber. So the safest way to do that wall seemed to be to avoid yet more timber. IMHO, that's way I'd go for your room, too.
Cheers
