Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Mar 17, 2010 8:57 am I'm really not sure what to call it. Let me try and explain. In our bedroom we would like the wall behind our bed to have a fabric surface that cushions out and has horizontal stitches around 1 foot apart. Giving the surface a look like a set of speed bumps that have been stacked next to each other on the wall, they would only be around say 50mm high off the material that would serve as the base. We are thinking of doing this as our feature wall, rather than using a decorative wallpaper. I've tried searching for things like "fabric wall", "cushion fabric wall" and other things on google but just cannot get it. Any ideas, anyone know what I am talking about? Re: Fabric wall? 2Mar 17, 2010 9:28 am Try "padded cell" Just joking - I think this sort of thing can look great. I'm interested in doing something similar in a stereo alcove, but with panels that would be almost flat compared to your 50mm "speedbumps" - maybe metallic strips in between for separation....... Cheers zeke Re: Fabric wall? 3Mar 17, 2010 9:46 am You are a genius! I searched "padded wall" and found a few nice things! This one also has a decorative print on it, we just want plain and also it has vertical strips. Ours will also reach around 2.4M in height but it's what I was looking for! Re: Fabric wall? 4Mar 17, 2010 9:48 am Googled "padded wall" in Google Images also and found a place on the Gold Coast makes custom uphostered walls. They are called the Bayline Group. Very smick, even with colour changing lights if you like Re: Fabric wall? 5Mar 17, 2010 9:49 am kazza Googled "padded wall" in Google Images also and found a place on the Gold Coast makes custom uphostered walls. What a fantastic idea, your bedroom will be LUX when it's all done Re: Fabric wall? 8Mar 17, 2010 1:40 pm Hello Nathan SteelFab, You can also try Googling 'Fabric Headboard' as it Headboard for you bed. These are quite popular and there are some DIY sites that tell you exactly how to make them. It would be the same principal for making what you have described. Here are some i found for you - http://interiordec.about.com/cs/diyhead ... adbd_2.htm http://www.bejane.com/headboard http://www.diynetwork.com/how-to/how-to ... index.html These are just a few that i found, the idea is the same, you just want taller thinner pieces all lined up to look like speed bumps. I think you idea will work and look fabulous, you must post a picture here when you have made it/purchased it. Re: Fabric wall? 9Mar 17, 2010 2:09 pm Great tips everyone! Hey guess what kid81 that place you mentioned has a display at david jones in the city, my wife went there on her lunch time and checked out some of the options. What's more they are having a 25% off sale in May, I just hope that our bedroom is framed up by then to take advantage of the cost reduction. As Lisa asked for a rough cost and the lady said that it would be around 3-4k to cover the sized area that we are looking for. I just checked our drawings: 5.1M long x 2M high section will need to be done. That is the size of the back of our bedroom wardrobe. Will try get some sample of the fabrics and post some pics in around 2 weeks. Maurita I will post some pics of it for sure!
