Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Mar 11, 2010 12:38 pm We have cream walls, and yellowy timber laminate flooring (Both can be viewed on my blog in my signature). I am really confused about what colours I should be using for things like our lounge suite, cushions, rug etc I want to keep the house fairly light, but I don't want everything to look too cream and bland, I need some contrast. Any suggestions?? Also, no idea what types of blinds/curtains/shades to use, let alone what colour. Was considering either timber shutters or perhaps more of a brown or cream colour fabric blinds/curtains...or maybe sheer blinds... Too many decisions!! White shutters would look lovely. But you need to decide what type of window dressing you want. I think I want to keep everything browns/creams with maybe some green plants... I was thinking of stained timber furniture to break up the cream, and the green plants to add colour... Is there any particular colour of timber you would suggest to suit the walls/floors? Also, not sure which objects to have lighter and which to have darker. Perhaps cream couch, brown rug, and light and dark couch cushions? But really..I can't picture anything, so I have no idea Lara and Joshua http://pdheywood25.blogspot.com/ viewtopic.php?f=31&t=31186 16.03.10 Scrape 29.03.10 Slab 08.04.10 Frame 11.05.10 Lock Up 03.06.10 Fixing 24.08.10 Handover Re: What colour for couches and blinds/curtains/shades? 4Mar 11, 2010 5:06 pm Dark timber is the go now. Should I have a lighter cream rug? (it will be a shaggy rug). I just looked up some brown ones, and they don't look too nice. Brown fabric couches look great, but the brown leather reminds me of a cow... Definately getting the leather recliners, so now I am not sure which shade to choose, unless I happen to come across nicer brown ones than the ones on google pics Lara and Joshua http://pdheywood25.blogspot.com/ viewtopic.php?f=31&t=31186 16.03.10 Scrape 29.03.10 Slab 08.04.10 Frame 11.05.10 Lock Up 03.06.10 Fixing 24.08.10 Handover Re: What colour for couches and blinds/curtains/shades? 8Mar 11, 2010 5:22 pm larajane Same My nan has always had one at her house in front of the fireplace, so I have cozy memories of ****** in it as a kid, watching cartoons No, no kids, house all to ourselves for now We are going to have leather recliners in the family area. I'm very taken with the white leather at the moment. He is a big kid. Just had a look at some google pic white leather lounges. They are very pretty I can also see that dark timber really suits the colours I have, and I like it, there's something stopping me from loving it. Like it needs more warmth... It is still definately an option. Do you think the colour of this coffee table (not style) would suit? http://www.elocal.com.au/index.php?cPat ... e813a868f5 Also, if you look on that page, I am choosing between the "dark chocolate brown" and the "Almond Brown" stains for the timber items throughout the house. (I am not choosing any of that furniture) What is your opinion? I'm very taken with the white leather at the moment. Our lounges and dinning chairs WERE white BC (before children) and before our friend, a surgeon no less, spilled red wine all over them. Sometimes all it takes is one clumsy adult. Now all the white is off-cream and we can't afford to re-upholster. Maybe worth looking at something coffee / cream coloured to start with progress viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20401 sculptures viewtopic.php?f=36&t=26607 pole trouble viewtopic.php?f=3&t=25988 Re: What colour for couches and blinds/curtains/shades? 11Mar 11, 2010 6:19 pm Hmmm, yes, perhaps I should be taking mess in too account, seeing as my partner isn't the cleanest person. But white is so lovely Perhaps more of a cream or beige colour would be better... My favourites are white, beige, cream, taupe, coffee, latte and eggshell. A lot of my furniture is dark stained wood, this creates contrast, as well as accents of black and charcoal. I think my house is anything but bland. Ps - I have a white shaggy rug, it's TDF. It's actually very hardwearing because the pile hides dirt/cat hair etc. Re: What colour for couches and blinds/curtains/shades? 13Mar 11, 2010 10:28 pm I just made an inspiration board, with a few ideas of living area colours. I labeled a few of them in case you weren't sure why I put them in there. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a356/ ... nBoard.jpg What is your opinion of these colour options? I really don't like having all different wood tones, so you need to decide on one or two tones that complement each other. In my house the hard furniture is either wood stained dark or antique french oak, or glass and chrome. If you infused the colours from that picture (red, orange, yellow & green) it would give the place a little more personality but keeping it to a bare miniumum to keep that lovely natural & peaceful flow going. I agree with Michelle on the white shutters or even blinds. I like the idea of keeping a lighter coloured rug & lamp shades & keeping the chocolate to a couple of cushions & pieces of furniture, even a timber lamp base? "A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality" -John Lennon Re: What colour for couches and blinds/curtains/shades? 20Mar 14, 2010 7:09 pm Thanks SS That's a great idea, infusing the paintings colours in to the room. I could use plants for green, the gold cushions and warm lamp shades for yellow, and the timber has a slight orange tinge. Still confused about the colour of the shutters/blinds, but I think I will just leave that until I have all the furniture in, and then check what different colours look like with the rest of the room.
