Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Mar 04, 2010 11:43 am Hello! This is the shape of our Master Bedroom... http://www.porterdavis.com.au/#/homeviewer/heywood/25 (Make sure you select "Master Bed") What should we put in the bedroom, besides a bed and beside tables? The bedroom is quite spacious, but I have no idea how to fill the empty area There is a walk in wardrobe and an ensuite on the left. You can see the floorplan in my blog (In my signature). Also, our walls and carpet are more of a cream colour. Do you not like what they have done, with a couch and a chair? you could put a lovely desk for a laptop and a nice stylie chair for reading as well, esp if that large window faces north, it will be nice and warm in winter there. great place to curl up and hide..... good luck with your build, it is fab! Re: What to put in Master Bedroom?? 3Mar 04, 2010 2:56 pm Yes, I know. Why would you want to sit in a couch and look at your bed?! Thanks for the idea We will already have a desk + recliner for reading in our study, which is next too our bedroom, so although it would look lovely, we would never really use a desk in the bedroom. (which looks amazing) could the study be used as an 'office' rather than a pampering, relaxing, recharging place (I dont know if you have kids etc...I have 5, so for me I would just make that room a cocoon!!) it is such a huge room, with a 'parents retreat' it would be such a shame not to use it ay, instead of just a chest of drawers, or a place to iron! my kids would use the study as a play station room you see, so the master could be where I check mail on the lap top, or recline in some designer chair with said lap top and pass out..with said lap top plopping onto the floor...with the chocolate.! I will go take another look at the house plan and maybe re use that study area for another activity, so you can use the master..not just for falling into bed at 11.50pm and leaving it at 7 am etc but using it during the day as a haven?? (I think I need a holiday...ha ha) yeah, think of a hotel suite...use what they have, cos that is why we stay in them, cos they are LUXURY yours should be too... anyway sorry, just my 3 cents... will be back I am sure...to add my last 2 cents! Re: What to put in Master Bedroom?? 5Mar 04, 2010 3:16 pm http://www.porterdavis.com.au/#/homeviewer/heywood/25 the plan doesnt have a study... do you mean the lounge or one of the bedrooms is a study? Re: What to put in Master Bedroom?? 6Mar 04, 2010 3:22 pm I would go to the study My study will be wonderful. It will have my lovely bookcase, and comfy recliner chair, and a nice lamp and side table. We don't have kids, so the whole house is a retreat really Maybe when we have kids, I will consider moving the desk in too our room. Lucky it is nice and spacious That's the problem. Everything I think of putting in the bedroom, we already have another place for. I don't really want to be stuck in the bedroom, because at the moment, living with many other people, the bedroom is our only private place, so we spend most of the day in there. Now, the last thing I want to do is have another reason to be in the bedroom! I will be roaming the house......... So exciting. (with 12 teenage boys you will not be roaming around your home cos they will be, you will be reclining in your said recliner, with your lamp and relaxing while they trash the family room) so yay you have space to have it evolve!! well,.... then I would put a beautiful side board (with or without a tv on it..depends if you do tv in your bedroom. Get one that is just gorgeous..one just for you and Josh to admire..dont put it in the lounge etc) and just enjoy the large spacious master suite... while you can (rather than using it for a bedroom, lounge, study, and a place to eat. which will happen later..ha ha) and maybe, just maybe you might want to put a nice chair in the window, just to sit and watch the world go by, cos I see it is facing the road..and the rest of the house will just have views of roofs maybe..so would be nice to have a place to sit and people watch/ car watch/ kids playing ball watch... or just cos there is room and you can... good luck, have bookmarked your blog nic (no, not a stalker...just interested!!) Re: What to put in Master Bedroom?? 9Mar 04, 2010 3:39 pm 12 teenage boys...the calm serene vision of my home was just taken over by the thought of 12 young Josh's running around, making noise, detroying everything A sideboard could be nice And maybe a chair...hmmm that gives me something to think about. Now I will have to find a really nice one. Goody! (trade me is your ebay) Re: What to put in Master Bedroom?? 14Mar 04, 2010 6:25 pm I hope this won't come across as more blunt than intended but this isn't the first query I've seen about what to do with the space, and with blocks getting smaller and changing suburban microclimates, mortgages getting bigger and the cost of heating/cooling going up, I find it a little puzzling. That's not to say having space for future needs, or just to have a sense of uncrowdedness, isn't a good idea. Anyhoo, you know your lifestyle best but here's some thoughts. Be careful about becoming reliant on the space if you might need it for something else in the future, eg a cot. I think a chair would look nice and be useful, somewhere to put on shoes without crumpling the bedcovers or to retreat to when you want to talk on the phone without the background noise of the rest of the household. Television and/or bookshelf, so you've got something to do when you want some "me" time or you're sick in bed. Exercise machine or yoga mat. A display of some sort, either something useful such as shelving with your hat collection on a bunch of mannequin heads, or purely aesthetic. A really nice timber blanket box. I wouldn't make it too crowded, much as I like the pic that amount of furniture looks like a pita to vacuum around. Re: What to put in Master Bedroom?? 15Mar 04, 2010 6:33 pm What about a dressing screen? I'm not sure what type of window furnishings you will be having but a lovely screen would fit perfectly in that spot, maybe with an ottoman to sit on & put shoes on there. although that would close the room in.... if you are not keen on that, what about a sofa table with a lamp & some photo frames, something that you wouldn't miss too much if you had to later utilise the space for something more practical. "A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality" -John Lennon Re: What to put in Master Bedroom?? 16Mar 05, 2010 6:47 am Wait and see.... it really depends on what you're going to use it for. We've been in our house over a year and I'm only just solidifying my ideas about what our lounge is going to be. Meanwhile, it's empty apart from a sofa bed. The enormous master bedroom was one of the main things that attracted me to our house, so I could have somewhere to get away from the kids. So ours is a peaceful retreat, luckily with plenty of room for couch, coffee table, feature lighting and TV. If you don't have kids, your needs will be different, but as someone already pointed out, needs can change as time goes on. I like the idea of a lovely dressing area. Your WIR is a reasonable size, but not huge, so some extra room for a dressing table and some pretty but practical storage things wouldn't hurt - assuming your partner doesn't mind the room being a bit girly, that is. Or just make it a personal retreat - somewhere quiet to go read a book and have a cuppa, all alone. Whatever you decide, you don't have to do it the minute you move in - take your time, see how the rest of the house works for you. The right answer will come to you. Re: What to put in Master Bedroom?? 17Mar 05, 2010 7:30 am Macy - Great idea to put a seat, so there is somewhere to put on shoes without crumpling the bed covers! I want to avoid too many things that make the room busy, like a television, or exercise machine. I would prefer things for mainly decorative purposes, so the room isn't as empty and plain. SS - A dressing screen would be lovely! It would suit the style of furnishing I want in the house. The only problem is, it might block of the window a bit too much. Kek - Everyone with kids seems to love having a large bedroom to escape too! Feeling lucky that we have one by chance, in case we have kids in future. I was wondering whether to have a dressing table, but for some reason I don't want a mirror in the bedroom. Perhaps a decorative table of some description, that I could put things like my jewelery on...
