Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Feb 22, 2010 8:07 pm HELP! The time has come to buy a coffee table to replace my ottoman and also a new tv unit! Now the problem I am having is trying to figure out which colour to go - I know one thing for sure is I want solid furniture. Basic rundown - kitchen is white, dining area is dark wood with dark chairs, lounge suite is black leather, a rug is being purchased it will be an olive/lime green shag and will be large going under the coffee table and extending out to the tv unit. My initial thought was to go all chocolate again - a chocolate coffee table and chocolate tv unit - but then I thought the chocolate in the middle of the black lounge might all be too dark - the green rug will break it up though and I was going to put a green/white table runner on the coffee table and also some accesories to brighten it up. It was then suggested to me to go white - I like white, but I'm scared a white tv unit and white coffee table might be all too much white given the white kitchen and also the light walls - I also thought it might be a bit stark going the white gloss coffee table next to the black lounge? Then I thought maybe a white coffee table and a chocolate tv unit - but can you mix and match furniture like that - given it will be so close? Also does anyone know where I can get some good solid wood (white or chocolate) square coffee tables/tv units - the coffee table needs to be no larger than 1m x 1m..... Some pics to help too Scuse the darkness - just took them then and their is no natural light coming in at 9pm! Looking now the place is screamin out for some colour but bare in mind I have done NO decorating - so think of the place with artwork, colour decor items etc The cushions on the couch can be changed to any colour and also will be adding colour decor items to the the tv unit - just want to get the big stuff sorted first Also the dinig chairs willl eventually swapped for white/lighter colour - I'm just waiting until the kids get past their feral stage http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r72/Mias_Mummy/P1012990.jpg http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r72/Mias_Mummy/P1012991.jpg Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ If anyone has pics of their black lounges with other furniture items that would be a great help too My karma ran over your dogma Re: Furniture colour help 2Feb 22, 2010 8:24 pm hmmm thats a hard one haywgl! i reckon the white would look sensational, but kids ... how about a nice birch colour? or the other colour they have in ikea, which is a bit darker, cant remember what they call it, might blend a bit with your floors? dunnoooo i reckon the green cushions will look nice with the green rug. hope someone else can be of more help "Your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts, and you are the slave to your emotions." — Elizabeth Gilbert Living in our new house. Sue my dear you don't happen to have a pic do you? I'm trying to get an idea of the white and the black.... I thought of adding another colour wood but thought it might be all to much... At this stage I am leaning towards white coffee table with chocolate wood entertainment unit..... My karma ran over your dogma Re: Furniture colour help 5Feb 22, 2010 10:53 pm I'm not sure either, perhaps a glass table, and you can get child-friendly glass tables... matt blanc have a few (and heaps in general, I'm not a huge fan of modern, but I really like some of the pieces they sell!) try this http://www.mattblatt.com.au/Casper-Curv ... x?p2763c12 or two of these together http://www.mattblatt.com.au/York-Curved ... x?p3764c36 A thankful person is a happy person. Not like when my daughter was little. I would NOT let the fact that you have kids put you off getting white furniture, just keep that bottle of Windex close and you’ll be right. How cool does this look!!! Windex is my best friend, along with the microfibre cloths which are even better. I will take a photo for you today Re: Furniture colour help 9Feb 23, 2010 6:37 am Wow Sue….that’s a bit posh! NICE! That rug makes me want to take my shoes off and "wade" through it. Re: Furniture colour help 13Feb 23, 2010 9:18 am Oh bless you Sue - that is exactly the kind of pic I needed!! Ok so definately going the white coffee table but what about the TV unit could I get away with having a black/brown one of those?? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/NEW-High-Gloss-W ... 2a04b6e42b http://cgi.ebay.com.au/White-High-Gloss ... 2a04b81167 Which one would you go?? I like the look of the second one better I think, but I like the practicality with the drawers of the first one - somewhere to store remotes etc... I think that white tv cabinet that Michelle found is gorgeous - surely that would be perfect with a white table... A thankful person is a happy person. Bel,I wouldn't do a black unit only because you have the brown dining table, I would change the cabinet to white and chuck something fabulous in green on it to go with the rug. Re: Furniture colour help 17Feb 23, 2010 10:22 am Thanks Sue Will show DH the two tables tonight to see his pick and go with that - the entertainment unit will stay the one we have for now and then I'll buy a new one in the coming weeks - atleast I can get a feel for the colours then Thanks again for the pics you are a lifesaver! Re: Furniture colour help 19Feb 23, 2010 11:37 am I like second one too - just not sure if it will date quickly and also how I can store things on it Yep Ottoman sold on ebay last night - I got $300 for it, would have preferred a bit more, it just means I need to put in another couple of hundred to get the coffee table My karma ran over your dogma Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7158 Thank you @.
