Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Feb 19, 2010 1:22 pm Hi I want to put sheer curtains behind my bed in a drape like fashion...I am not too sure how to explain it apart from I want to hook it from the ceiling directly behind my bed and let them fall behind my bed in a romantic fashion? Any ideas of what material or curtain I should look for and where I can buy them exactly? I also want to purchase a beautiful bird painting for my lounge room that is quite large and very white neutral in colour...with maybe a splash of blue?? THANKS! Re: curtains and bedroom ideas 2Feb 19, 2010 3:04 pm If you want sheers, you have quite a few choices. Organza, voile, different types of meshes, patterned or plain...and all made in natural or synthetic fabrics in a range of colours. I'd go take a look at Spotlight if there's one near you, just to get an idea of what's available. Keep in mind that while you can buy ready-made curtains in individual packages from lots of places, that's probably an expensive way to do it. Better to buy the fabric on a roll - you can get a number of fabrics with a ready-made channel for rods or wires, and if you pick the length right, all you'll have to do is hem the side edges. Go for three times the width of the area you want to cover, so you get a lovely soft gathered effect. If you think it's a bit too foofy (that is so a word ), you can always cut it down to two-and-a-half times. Have you thought about how you'll hang it? Rod or stretchy wire thingy on simple hooks? With concealed tabs or a pelmet maybe, to disguise the fixings? Or get a fancy pole and brackets and make a feature of it? There's a window here, and the colour might not be what you're thinking of, but is this similar to what you have in mind? Re: curtains and bedroom ideas 3Feb 19, 2010 5:11 pm I literally JUST bought these curtains on Ebay for my daughters room (to go on a window, not over a bed) but there were some example pics about how they could go above a bed. Hope this helps!! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I think a nice sheer curtain with lots of gathering would look very romantic. Re: curtains and bedroom ideas 4Feb 20, 2010 9:50 am I think if you painted the wall behind your bed in a deep rich colour, then hung a really nice sheer with lots of gathering on a lovely chrome rod with finials it would look stunning! You can get sheers with gold or silver thread in leaf designs and others. Spend a bit on the sheers; get really nice ones, as they will be the feature of your room. Nice idea by the way, remember that the curtains need to be able to be removed easily to be washed, they will get dusty and you don’t want to spend forever trying to get them off. Hence the rod to hang them on.
