I can also recommend Provincial Home living for furniture and homewares/decor items, and also Victorianna Rose in Blackburn has some beautiful pieces, all along the same theme of French Prov....if that's what you like. I can't go past 'The Works' (Bed Bath N Table) in Hawthorn. HUGE amount of floorspace filled with decorating stuff, furniture, kitchen, bathroom, manchester etc, and a cafe when you get hungry. You need to spend hours there. Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! What decorating style? Do you want bargains, or is money no object....? Re: Home Decor/homewares shops in Melbourne? 5Feb 17, 2010 11:27 am Thank you for everyones answers so far! I don't really know what "style" I like... I think I like a lot of different things, so just suggesting places that you like is very helpful. I don't want designer brands, because I do have a budget, just nice decorative homewares of all types and styles. One style I do like it Japenese/Zen objects...but definately not limited to that. Definitely not my style, but there is a shop on Church St at Richmond, just over the bridge (where the Natuzzi showroom used to be?) that you might like. Re: Home Decor/homewares shops in Melbourne? 7Feb 18, 2010 8:20 am Thanks Mishb, I will take a look in that area =) I really have no idea what style I like, so I don't know where to start. Church St Richmond is a good place to start. Wear good comfortable shoes, have some change for parking meters and go and have a good browse. A lot of the shops are fairly pricey, but you are mostly looking for inspiration. Take note of pieces that call out to you, don't rush into buying anything unless you are absolutely sure about it. Yes, I am trying to not buy anything until I have a general idea of what I am after. I will have to drag my partner down there so I can have a browse =D I might try to take a few pictures on my mobile phone. I have decided that although I love seeing that "French Provincial" style in other peoples homes, it is not right for me. Also, the brand names are too expensive for my budget. I would love to find some shops that are not too expensive, that sell a general range of decorative homewares, perhaps not a specific style. As far as I know, Bed Bath N Table don't have a website. 'The Works' in Hawthorn has a huge range of different styles from modern contemporary through to more traditional, lots of different colours and styles. You are bound to find something you like there!! A good place for you to start would be Nunawading...as in your other thread. There are plenty of shops there that have both furniture and homewares. Freedom is good to have a look around as they have 'rooms' made up with all sorts of decor too. Great to get ideas, take down prices and prehaps look elsewhere for similar and cheaper. Even Spotlight and 2 dollar shops have some homewares that are inexpensive. It all depends what exactly you are looking for, and until you really know it's hard to suggest places to go! Give Nunawading a try (but you might need about 4 hours or more...). Also have a look at peoples' building threads and blogs to get ideas. I have links to heaps of decorating blogs on my blog with lots of inspiration, but again, it depends on what style you like (Mine is a mix of French Prov, Hamptons and English Country, so that's what you'll mostly find on my blog!). Also flip through housey magazines, and not just Australian ones, to gain inspiration. Google is a wealth of inspiration in itself! If you like Asian style decorating, type that in google images and see what comes up. I have 'filed away' hundreds of photos from google that I find inspirational. Good luck, though, and happy 'looking'! Let us know how you get on! Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! (obviously I'm a fan!) A thankful person is a happy person. Will definitely visit Bed Bath N Table, The Works and Nunawading. Thanks so much for the ideas => Can't wait to go shopping.
