Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Feb 14, 2010 8:43 am Hi everyone - hoping you can help me with my colour dilemmas: I live in an old white character filled weatherboard. Just finished stripping the laura ashley wall paper in our lounge room that we put up over 20 years ago (still love it but time to move on...) and now would like a complete change and have chosen Antique White USA for walls. I have a raspberry pink cosy lounge suite in this room which I also love and don't want to get rid of. I have lots of light by way of a big bay window and a set of french doors. I also have a fireplace in this room and polished floor boards (dark). Question 1 - do you think it will be too much of a contrast between the walls and the lounge suite? Question No. 2. From this room you can look into the study which is painted Dulux celery ( lovely fresh green) - so should I repaint this in the Antique White USA or should I paint my picture rails in lounge in celery to tie the two rooms together? Question No. 3. We are also getting a new kitchen....first one ever!!!! The theme I have chosen for the kitchen cupboards is a clean and crisp country style with white timber cabinets. My dilemma here is can I paint the kitchen cupboards and the walls both in Antique White USA or should I go for a brighter white for the cupboards? Thanks everyone - I hope I have made sense and that someone can help me out as I am going a bit silly over all this. Question 1 - do you think it will be too much of a contrast between the walls and the lounge suite? NO...not at all. Question No. 2. From this room you can look into the study which is painted Dulux celery ( lovely fresh green) - so should I repaint this in the Antique White USA or should I paint my picture rails in lounge in celery to tie the two rooms together? OMG, don’t get rid of the Celery, it’s a fantastic colour! Keep the rooms individual, so by this I mean keep the rooms a different colour. Question No. 3. If is was a stark white, it would be too white in my opinion, but the warmth of the white will go well with the warmth in the pink. Keep the two rooms individual in terms of the green & white. The muted tones in all colours will help it flow. The antique white USA is a colur that next to appliance white looks very cream. If you have stainless appliances the Antique white USA would look beautiful. If you have white applicances it may not flow quite so well. But it's much of a muchness to me, I think your home sounds beautiful. "A dream you dream alone is only a dream. We are putting in a new kitchen as part of a total renovation/rebuild of our next home and we love White Opal - also a warm white. Our cupboards will be timber shaker style painted and appliances stainless steel, kick is brushed aluminium. Our walls, windows and doors will also be white opal. This is 3rd time I have used this colour in a house and it works as will your Antique White. WE were originally unsure between these 2 colours. The important thing we find is how to build contrast with the warm neutral background. These colours never date and harmonise with a lot of other shades. These whites look great with timber floor, timber furniture, cane, coastal theme, antiques and an eclectic look. We have chosen tiled floor this time in a porcelain travertine look a like. Our dilemma is benchtop colour for caesarstone and from my forum looks like latte will win. Go ahead with your Antique white cupboards and walls it will look great but agree not white appliances. Sounds great-have fun. Looking for advice on whether this variation in tile colour is acceptable. The large tile on the left was used in my main bathroom renovation 1 year ago.
