Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Feb 11, 2010 12:34 am Hi, Basically I don't have a clue what colors would go together in this area. Our kitchen is grey/silver cupboards. It overlooks the family room and the area is floorboarded. Current walls are yellowish so going to paint them antique white USA (or another white if this one doesnt look right!) on the weekend. We have black leather couches (Melbourne couches from Plush) and DH likes the 'modern' look. Because of the greys in the kitchen I am stuck what colors would go OK with that as I wanted to get dark brown tv unit / coffee tables / dining table etc. But now I'm thinking wold the browns work with the grey nearby? Basically I need to get the rest of the furniture for the dining/family room and choose some colors for a rug/paitnings. I thoght of doing black / white but I really wanted chocolate coloured furniture and also I thought all that black white and gray was just too black and white? does that make sense? lol. anyways any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I'm attaching some photos of the area so you can see the grey in the kitchen and the floorboard color. They are from when the house was up for sale so its not our furniture so imagine it bare And imagine the walls white! Also to add that i need to get new window furnishings too to go with all that. The photos of the area are here: http://s652.photobucket.com/albums/uu25 ... ons/house/ and the furniture I was considering: Thankyou! Re: Some advice on family/kitchen area? 2Feb 11, 2010 5:35 am Hi turando, Michelle is probably still sleeping so I'll have a go I love the furniture, it has a greyish look about it on my screen. I think the furniture is fine with the kitchen, but am a bit worried about it on that floor and with those cupboard doors at the end of the kitchen, it may be too many different woods and finishes in the one area. Re: Some advice on family/kitchen area? 5Feb 11, 2010 8:53 pm if all that wooden furniture is not yours then i think your new furniture choices will look great with the existing grey tones of the kitchen and look fine with the floor. It will look especially co ordinated if you tie it all in with the dining room. I also wouldnt put a big cupboard at the end of the kitchen wall. it makes it feel closed in. Antique white USA is a lovely colour but i also like the greeny grey in the catelog pic you posted. I went a very light greeny grey myself.
