Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Feb 08, 2010 1:07 pm Will a selection of high-gloss polyurethane furniture (eg entertainment unit, bed) such as that featured here... http://www.beyondfurniture.com.au/view/ ... GDG-N.html ...work well on a semi-gloss timber floor? My new home is contemporary with plenty of straight lines. The colour scheme is warm neutrals (charcoal -raku, linseed, natural white with red accents in the decoration). Most of my furniture is already in-place - dining & coffee tables are dark toffee timber (Freedom Mendoza range) and my sofas & dining chairs are white leather. I thought a few items of the gloss furniture would "cool" things down a little and (the tv unit) tie in well with the glass border on the plasma tv. However the salesperson at the store above politely suggested that style of furniture is best suited to tiled or very minimalist warehouse-style living spaces. The photographs on their www site seem to confirm this suggestion. Anyone agree strongly with the store? Re: Gloss furniture on timber floor? 2Feb 08, 2010 1:17 pm Salespeople will say ANYTHING to get you to buy more stuff. Just because it looks good in tiled or minimalist spaces, doesn't mean it won't look good in yours. In the same way that antiques look great in 100+ year old homes, but in more modern ones too. Rules, rules, rules... I say make your own. Mix it up. buzz *Of course I have no background in interior decoration... I just don't like being told what to do* Re: Gloss furniture on timber floor? 3Feb 08, 2010 1:22 pm The irony is the salesperson could have had me sold on the spot if he said it WAS a good match. The fact he disagreed made me think it was a very obvious mismatch and that I really should keep the timber theme going everywhere. Re: Gloss furniture on timber floor? 5Feb 08, 2010 1:41 pm sorry, thought it was the frredom people trying to get you off the idea of the high gloss. still stick by my other comments. Many of the places I've really liked on here, have done something different. Something perhaps you think wouldn't work... but it does. Seriously, if you think it will work, I say go for it. I think it sounds great. Just because it doesn't fit his vision, doesn't mean it won't work. +1 to suh Re: Gloss furniture on timber floor? 6Feb 09, 2010 12:08 pm I completely agree with Buzz. Mixing it up is half the fun of your own home, making it unique, not a freedom showroom. Sounds like the salesperson wasn't really listening to you very well as it seems to me the simplicity in the entertainment unit would flow well with the leather couch & dining chairs. What ever colour you choose will contrast with the flooring but maybe so it doesn't look too 'odd', pick the colour which flows with the walls more. Glossy white would go really well with the leather couch & dining chairs & open up the space (if it needs it) but the walnut black may be a better match to the Mendoza range & blend better with your tv if it black.
