Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Help with exterior colours for a 1950's red brick house 22Feb 12, 2010 4:08 pm Michelle I'm really struggling with paint colours for our post war brick house with steel casement windows and a red tiled roof. We've decide to retain the red bricks as many houses in our street are either rendered or painted white! The casement windows are still in great condition, but are in need of a paint job! We need colours for the windows, lintels eaves etc. We've used Dulux Boycott on the front door and exterior concrete retaining walls. I really like Dulux White Duck, but I think it's too light for the windows. Other colours I've considered are Linseed and Beige Royal. My thought is to use one colour of varying strengths. Our house is really tall ( 3 stories) and imposing from the street. It has large lintels and the mortar is a dirty yellowy/green sand colour. The exterior looks quite ugly right now (see link below) http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/6 We intend to paint the rendered wall and keep the bricks red. Inside the house we have white walls and chocolate brown wool carpet. Please help with colours for the windows, eaves, lintels and rendered walls. Would Dulux linseed look okay on the windows? What about Dulux peppercorn rent? Is that too dark? I think it would look really fresh. And charcoal (or even black) to replace the blue. This would modernise the look. With the dark charcoal you could use a lighter grey as the secondary colour. Re: Help with exterior colours for a 1950's red brick house 27Jun 27, 2010 2:11 pm Sorry, i'm hopeless when it comes to colour schemes, but just wanted to say that your home is stunning Dear J.K. Sincerely, Anonymous Re: Help with exterior colours for a 1950's red brick house 28Jun 27, 2010 9:36 pm We are getting rid of the blue trims and yellow window frames! I think white duck might be too light. I tried grand piano on one of the windows but it also was too light. It is so tricky! I want it to have a modern contemporary look which will compliment my new white kitchen! Now that’s old, because I’m still using the fan deck before the last one that came out from years ago. Linseed is a great colour, so keeping within that colour heres my pick of colours for you but around the Linseed. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Help with exterior colours for a 1950's red brick house 35Jun 28, 2010 8:14 pm Hi Michelle, I do like it. We have used in on all our retaining walls, so it would be a bit laborious to use repaint. Inside the house we have painted everything white. We used a dark grey brown floor tile in the bathrooms and very dark chocolate brown carpet in passages and bedrooms and the 2nd living room. The kitchen is white and the splashback is beige royal. We have splashes of colour in paintings and throws. I like the colours you have chosen, but could you suggest something that would work well with boycott? thanks, Lou Lou Re: Help with exterior colours for a 1950's red brick house 36Jun 28, 2010 8:17 pm Funny that I couldn’t find the Boycott in my fan deck the first time, but after seeing it I recognise the colour and the name……leave it with me, I’ll look again now. So why not do the render Boycott and do white windows for the contrast, I think this would look really classy on your home.
