Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Feb 08, 2010 9:27 am Hi, I'm really struggling with paint colours for our post war brick house with steel casement windows and a red tiled roof. We've decide to retain the red bricks as many houses in our street are either rendered or painted white! The casement windows are still in great condition, but are in need of a paint job! We need colours for the windows, lintels eaves etc. We've used Dulux Boycott on the front door and exterior concrete retaining walls. I really like Dulux White Duck, but I think it's too light for the windows. Other colours I've considered are Linseed and Beige Royal. My thought is to use one colour of varying strengths. Our house is really tall ( 3 stories) and imposing from the street. It has large lintels and the mortar is a dirty yellowy/green sand colour. Can anyone give me some advice? cheers, Lou Lou Re: Help with exterior colours for a 1950's red brick house 2Feb 08, 2010 10:01 am Can you upload some pics? The first one is the colour of the bricks, the other view is the north facing side of the house. It's currently painted blue and yellow and looks very tired. http://profile.imageshack.us/user/louise62/ I'll look forward to any ideas! thanks, Lou Lou Re: Help with exterior colours for a 1950's red brick house 4Feb 08, 2010 12:29 pm Hi Lou Lou.......welcome to H1. My window frames are black and so are the gutters and fascia, as well as a black tiled roof. I really like the combination of red, black and cream. I think this would still work with a red roof though. BTW, your home is magnificent, how lovely! Re: Help with exterior colours for a 1950's red brick house 13Feb 10, 2010 1:51 pm Thanks for your help, I like black and cream as well, but I'm not sure that it would work with steel windows. I'm pondering Wattyl Aged Driftwood. It matches the mortar colour. I'm thinking full strength on windows and lintels and 1/4 strength under eaves. What do you think?
